Crazy. Don't understand how those things happen... I mean, even if the water was higher, isn't a tree good enough warning?

Why is it every time I see a pic of a boat run aground, the fenders are out??

I've never seen the water all the way above the rocks - I was just thinking it would be hard to get the boat up there with the current water level. It would be extremely hard to miss. Maybe it was at night.

Any chance there was a storm that threw a loose boat onto the island like this?

How come every single picture I see like that, they have the bumper still hanging out? Any coincedence? Too drunk to remember to pull in the bumpers or turn to avoid the large land mass? Stupid bastards.

Not even close to a 52' Shawn.. Would suck to see your half million dollar boat up on the shore though, wouldn't it?

Really. Very familiar with the 52'. Remember though, the Sea Ray 52' also goes by the model "500 Hundred" and others. They used the same hull for different years, thus giving it different names. What size and seating configuration does Sea Ray have exactly like this? Not aware of one, but hey no biggy. Either way, screwed. .

A problem I see with these boats is that ANYONE can buy one....my dad's first boat was a 40' crusier, lol. He had no idea what he was doing. I had to force him to hire a captain the first few times out. I can easily see some guy using auto pilot , not paying attention, and doing something like that.

Not sure why Jeff decided to argue that the Sea Ray is "Not even close to a 52' Shawn.." It is in fact that large of a boat, and I can't imagine what kind of repair cost would be involved. This accident happened coming out of a cove at night time. The cove happens to have a rather popular eating and drinking establishment located in it. Just sayin.

johndk, Where do you put in? Leesylvania, Occoquan.....is there any good water around there. Every time I've been near the water in that area is full of go fasts and the water is really choppy. I'm live in the Woodbridge area but the family has a place on Anna so that's where we usually end up. BTW, sweet MB in your profile picture.

C-Dub and Johndk - I am in the area as well and curious where you guys go to ride. I normally ride in Belmont Bay, but its either early morning or late at night, when all the go-fast and big boats aren't out, and you can find some glass. It can be fairly shallow in there however. Let me know if you have any nice places to ride. I heard Mattowoman Creek is nice, but haven't been over there yet.

Craig, The only boat I have access to is the one at the family lake house down at Lake Anna so that is where all of my riding takes place. So in turn I don't really get to get out much. It would be nice to ride more often and not have to drive so far for a couple hours of ride time. Shoot me a PM with your email address maybe we can hook up.

Yup, Mattawoman Creek is usually the only place for glass, but it's small and lots of boats are often there, screwing up the water. The other option is Gunston Cove (a bit northeast), but that's usually choppy with lots of boats. I can usually only go on weekends. On weekdays Mattawoman is really nice. It's getting better on weekends now as less boats are out there.

That Sea Ray had to be hauling A$$ to get beached that far up the sea wall. I am making an assumption that there was likely a touch of alcohol involved in that accident. I grew up boating on that lake, there sure are some big boats down there and idiots who have no business being behind the wheel.
