Anybody played around with google maps and the satellite view? Looks like someone found a wakeboarder!

Here's a whole sight full of fun things people found. http://www.googlesightseeing.com/

Max,

When you are 18, please move out of your parents basement, it will do you good.

we dont even have a basement and why would you say that just because i dont like wasting my time on computers playing with maps

You don't find it interesting that this image was captured from a satellite?

Ever been in a plane and looked out the window??

What is so great about it??

So you go on the internet (something I did not have when I was 14, but we did have a basement) and go to a free map site and can cruise around the entire USA and then hit a link and the whole thing turns into high res sattelite images that you can zoom into.

In one of those images a wakeboarder or waterskier is frozen in time after slashing the wake and Gerald found it. I think it's cool, we are immortalized forever on Google Maps. Google actually has some pretty recent photos, and someone sat there and laced them all together.

Maybe if you spent more time using your imagination instead of posting negative remarks you might actually learn something.

I am gonna bet alot of folks on here enjoy looking at their home lakes in Sat view.

Check out Naci, really does look like a dragon.

PS-> the rider is in Wollochot Bay in Tachoma, riding up the narrows and getting some butter, NICE.

wow, totally not where I thought this thread was going to go...

Gotta give some credit to my friend who found the Google Sightseeing site that had it listed. It looked like there was some discussion if it was a skiier, boarder, or even pwc. You'd be able to see the pwc and the skiier wouldnt make such a splash outside the wake.

Where is Naci? Can you put up that link?

Maybe being from Ohio Max you'd prefer something local, like the Goodyear blimp's old hangar in Akron.

They call the lake "The Dragon". One of my favortie riding spots when I can get there.

Max, some of the images are lower resolution, so you can't zoom in too far.

Seriously though, use it to go to your river, maybe you can see where you rode and maybe find a new spot that is glass all day. That pic with the rider is taken in Tacoma, I have a friend in Tacoma, he wakeboards, maybe I'll go visit and we'll crash that exact cove and I'll throw my first inverted trick there because I am so stoked that I saw the place on Google maps.

I'ts not about the pic, it's about the tool. Many of us here (most??) have to trailer up and head to the riding spots. Maps get us from A to B. Maybe there is a better way to go when you are hauling 4000 lbs behind your truck. Maybe when you get there you can find a new cove on some big lake that you did not know was there, maybe a new camp spot or boat launch. Maybe a new lake that is uncrowded and is glassy all day long.

Wakeboarding is my fun, and I'll do anything I can to make my time on the rope better. The internet is gold for that. I now can figure out what boards are good, make campground reservations, look at satellite images of the lake, check the weather, and heck, I even bought my boat off the internet.

Sorry to take a cheapshot, but the old golden rule about saying something nice really does apply here. The whole purpose of these places is to learn stuff and increase your fun. Hit the back button if the post is not what you want to be reading.

Personally, I think the rider is on a board, and just slashed the wake and is setting up for a monster heelside raley.

Flux - don't spend too much time justifying yourself to a 14 year old, total waste of time IMO.

Joe - not contributing too much yourself there either. If you learned to control yourself while at the keyboard you would have much more respect (than you already do) in my book.

Google maps are cool, and for the sake of keeping this thread on track, here is the lake I ride on. Our run is along the southern most part of the lake. That nice, long, straight line protected by all the south winds we get in Texas..

rammer, i forgot to add in my post...

"that's cool that of all things, the satelite took a pic of butter w/ a rider on it!"

here's where i try to ride at least once or twice a month. (until we move there permanently...end of this year, i hope)

Just trying to educate!!

Here's the puddle where I ride 50% of the time. Good for riding though!! Islands throughout help kill the rollers.

i found a private lake on that map, flux!

Old     (flux)      Join Date: Jun 2003       06-10-2005, 1:07 PM Reply
That could easily be a liquid cowcrap pool. There are a bunch of factory dairy farms out there, they liquify the crap into a big pool, mix it with water, and flood the surrounding fields. Needless to say it if the wind blows the wrong direction, it's a little tough out there.

The big lake is only like three miles long tops. probably a little hard to drive the D-up on that private lake. Thanks for looking out for me though.

Joe,

I think the top slough is Victoria and the bottom one is the slough by Tracy Oasis. That's a cool picture though. If you zoom in tomorrow around 10 am, then keep an eye out for me.

have you zoomed in on it? it's definitely a private lake. and private lakes are easy to drive d-ups in. just follow the island around.

Max,

got to http://maps.google.com

you will see the whole usa in graphic form. double click on your area and the map will recenter, then incrementally zoom and double click until you are in close to where you want to be. You can also pan by clicking and dragging the map around. When you are close to your spot, hit the satellite image link in the upper right and it will turn into photos. If you get that error message about not available, zoom out a bit and it will come up.

you can also toggle between map and sat to see town names and road names. When you find your spot hit the link to this page thing and it will give you the link in the http:// at the top of the browser, select and copy paste it into your post and we can see your riding spot.

Umali knows the trick for posting the image, maybe a screen shot.

Here's downtown Cinci and the river:

Here's OWC. Doesn't look very recent though. You can barely see the tracks of a wakeboarder on both cables.

I think the images may be a little old. I dont know how old though. I checked my neighborhood (where there is a lot of construction. The picures seem to be at least a few months out of date. So, I wouldnt rely on the images to show you a good cove, the water level is probably different by now. Anyone know where to find the image dates?

If you look at downtown stockton it doesn't have any of the new developements. and here in fresno it has the save martt center partly under construction. i would say that depending on the area the pictures are probably between 1 to 4 years old.

Joe i do the same thing you do. I have gotten on numerous times and just had fun searching for waterski lakes. I have found a few. It's interesting because you would never know they were there without a birds eye veiw. Some of them are only for the owners use so nobody has even heard of them. I just think it's interesting.

keep the posts comming
Old     (dakid)      Join Date: Feb 2001       06-10-2005, 7:27 PM Reply
yeah, most of them are for owners' use only, but a handful of them can be rented for $500(+/-) per weekend. imagine getting 10-20 people w/ a few boats for a weekend...$500(+/-) doesn't sound so bad anymore, does it?

I did a google search for other photos to compare, and there is not much. but there are a couple. There is also a short little description from a guy that said he and his wife have been to the entrance, and he also goes on to say where MJ's house may be on the property
