This weekend I pulled my friend's 03 Malibu Wakesetter behind my Tahoe and had some problems with the hitch. I was using a 2" ball and it went on perfectly the first time, but got progressively worse through the weekend as we took the trailer on and off the truck. Do Dorsey trailers use a 1 7/8" ball or a 2"? Was wondering if that was my problem. Thanks.

All of my Dorsey's that are for tow boats dating back to the early 90's were 2".

That's what I thought, because my Dorsey trailer at home for a Wakesetter uses a 2" ball. We just couldn't figure out why the trailer wouldn't release.

Just FYI - In general (for any somewhat modern trailer fabricated in the past 10 years), 1 7/8 balls are only rated to 2000 lbs. From 2000 to 5000/6000 you generally use a 2" and greater than 5 or 6K you go to a 2 5/16.

1 7/8 would only be found on a single axle homeowner smallish trailer. Any fiberglass boat over 16' in length will use at least a 2" ball.

Make sure the coupler is unloaded before you try to jack it up. Sometimes the UFP couplers can have preasure on the brake actuator which will make it hard to get the trailer off the ball. Before you begin cranking give the trailer a tug away from the truck to unload the brake actuator. Also when putting the trailer on make sure the lock latch it pulled all the way back. I will stay in the upright positon by itself but sometimes you have to give it a tug while you are cranking the jack down.
