Yes Cory at Evolution Covers does a great job and good customer service too. He can also do custom add ons like gas cap cover flaps, transom cover, and swimdeck cover. He uses Sunbrella. I am very happy with mine from him.
OT: I broke/lost a couple of my coupler clips on my cover anyone know where I can find those or even what they're called? I can't find them via google to save my life.
The cover doesn't come down very far off the back and I prefer the buckle style traps. Also I prefer the loop and ball sinch string over the multiple buckle system on Rankin as well as they seem to use a lighter weight Sunbrella than the one I have.
Hate, My Rankin has the buckle type straps & a cinch that gets plenty tight (it's inside the leather wrap over the BR in the Calabria logo). The reason for the multiple straps is so it is tight enough to tow with it. I just towed mine from Spokane to Entiat without any issues.
Cory has a zip on extension for this type of cover that he will make go around the swimstep. So you get the best of both worlds.
This is my 4th Sunbrella cover in probably 15 yrs. I haven't noticed that it's any lighter weight than the others. It's 4 yrs old this year. I have a couple of holes in it on the side where the MC in the slip next to my boat rubbed up on it. Otherwise it's held up very well.
For our last two boats we had custom covers made out of Aqualon material. The material is a waterproof vinyl on the outside with a cotton like material on the inside. The material is not breathable so they need to put vents in it (in a way that keeps it waterproof). Paid about $625 for a custom job. Then it is done exactly like you want it. Our oldest cover is 8 years old and in pretty good shape.
Bill, are the buckles on the back four or five straps or on the cinch line? I'm talking about preferring the buckles on the ones across the back and not on the cinch cord that wraps around the boat. Mine is that way buckles across the back five and ball and one ball and loop around cinch cord it's called a 5 to 1 towing cover. I had a rankin and just didn't like how hard the five straps across the back were to operate. Rankins are good covers I just know they can be easier to use.
There are many types of breathable fabrics available. The big difference in price between the cheap covers (and tarps) and the good covers is due to the breathable fabrics. Never ever cover a boat with a non-breathable cover. Condensation build-up under the cover can do lots of damage.
I have the max cover from empire its a 3 layer cover made from Tyvek developed by DuPont.
Thanks for the spam Tim. You guys don't even list inboard, wakeboard, v-drive or direct drive boats on your site at all. Much less any way of measuring for a tower.
Tim - boat cover fabric does not need to be breathable if the cover is made properly. I had a custom cover made of aqualon (which is like vinyl) and the shop that made it put vents in it. My boat stayed 100% dry in every rain storm for 8 years while outside on the lift during the summer. After using the boat monday mornings, (then off to work) we covered the boat with the interior still wet from riders getting in and out of the boat. Guess what? The interior never had a drop of mold or mildew in 8 years of having a non-breathable fabric because the cover had waterproof vents. The cover still looked brand new after 8 years. A breathable fabric will not keep a boat dry for 8 years, look brand new, and require no maintenance. My new Supra has the "standard" boat cover and so far I don't like it and it does not keep the boat 100% dry. just my 2 cents.
