Ok so this thread is for my buddys who has a 88 SN 2001.

He called and told me that the deck on his system works (Powers On)

However the amp does not some on and neither does the Capacitor.

He has a Clarion XMD3, Memphis 5 Channel, with a Stinger Capacitor

Here are my two thoughts that I am going to check tonight but I thought that someone could post any other ideas or tell me that mine were lame.

1. Remote wire is bad somewhere and thatis causing the amp not to turn on.
2. the Capacitor is bad and that is casueing the problem.

Here is how I plan to check this:
1. test the remote wire with a test light. If that checks out them we are good

2. connect the amp to the battery directly and see if the amp powers on.

I am up to any other suggestions .

Thanks in Advance

Preston

PS the system worked Flawlessly last summer and nothing has been touched since then

Check the ground/power wires of the cap to the battery. Check the battery terminals for corrosion.

I didn't know that capacitors "turn on". My first test would be to take a volt meter and measure the voltage for the main power leads right at the amp.

While you have the volt meter handy, measure the voltage at from ground to the remote input. If it isn't ~12 volts then start chasing that back.

If you have 12 volts, ground and remote to the amp and it doesn't power on then it is dead....

Out of curiousity, what is the voltage on the battery?

Well here was the deal that my buddy did not inform me of. When he had the boat in the shop he had them put in a perko switch just the single battery version. When they installed it they did not ground the system back to the battery. I was just glad for his sake that it was a stupid fix and not something huge like a blown amp casue I know those are not cheap.

Thanks for all the replies to the post.
Till Next Time
Preston
