I have a relative that wants to sell me a '06 Ford Expedition for what they owe on it (less than half NADA). Buying it and selling it for a profit is not an option. I have an '06 CC 210/SAN and wonder how towing with an independent rear end is. I currently have a '02 Dodge 1500 Quad Cab with a 4.7 in it that struggles up hills and sometimes has trouble at the ramp since it's only 2wd. Anyone tow with an independt rear end?

I don't think your issue is the independent rear end. What engine does the Excursion have in it? We also have a 4.7l in our 2001 Durango, and it is a dog. I have a feeling that the Expedition is going to be a much better tow vehicle.

The Expidition has a funky independent rear end that I am not familar with. I wonder if it's going to sway left and right while towing. It does have the 5.4 in it.

No problem as long as it has the 5.4 engine and the tow package. Mine's an 05 and it's towed an 04 VLX and an 02 SSV no problems at all.

Neighbors have an '06. Tows well, brakes well, but I have been in the back row before and it does sway back and forth because of the rear suspension. You don't notice it in the front seats and will only notice it in the second row ir you are looking for it.

We tow an '04 Malibu Wakesetter with our '01 5.4L Expedition with no problems. Air ride suspension is awesome.

I tow my '93MC with a '97 Expedition 4X4, with the 5.4 now has 120K and I still love it. Been thru a Chevy Sub and two Tahoes and like the Ford much better. It's bigger than the Tahoe and a little smaller than the Sub. Plenty of room for 6 people, boat and gear. A little more truck like feel when driving which i like. Towing NO PROBLEM, just use the overdrive, when needed. Last year while coming home with the boat, wife said the boat was swaying, but than looked at the speedo and i was going 85, and didn't even relize it. For the price i would get it...

Richard, I think the the '97 has a the solid rear axle, correct? This one is an '06 and has the funky independent rear end which is what I'm worried about. Also I think it will be impossible to lift down the road if I wanted too.

I will probably end getting it though. Here are the only pictures of the rear end I could find.

No experience with the Expedition. My Exploder's rear diff was cooked after 150km, pulling a 1800 lbs boat.

Oh yeah, tranny too.
