I've got a ch, ch, ch sound from the left side of the engine and can't figure out what it is. Engine runs smoothly, no leaks, and no loud knock from the valve covers. And can't feel a puff of exhaust from the manifold...any ideas?

Is that something you can test with soapy water to see if there's bubbles or is it too hot?

Maybe when you first start it up you could test it with soapy water before it gets warm.

thanks! I'll try it and pray that it is!

Check your spark plugs, though if it's running smoothly I could be way off. A compression test may shed some light on things as well.

Sometimes exhaust has internal baffles that can break or get stuck. What engine/drive/boat are you running?

95 super sport. 310 hp gt 40 w/600 hours. I tried the soap around the heads / exhaust manifold and didn't see any bubbles. The plugs on that side are all tight and carbon free...they look fine. It has new manifolds on it...probably less than 6 months old...I still don't have a clue.

Pretty boat. Soap won't work as it is too much pressure. A smoke machine(tool)would be ideal. Use a stethoscope or a piece of hose in your ear and with the engine cold listen for air escaping from the exhaust manifolds. Do not let it continue as it will cause damage if it is the manifolds. If the manifold is warped it will need to be removed and machined.

I took the manifold off and sure nuf the exhaust gasket had a crack in the top of the gasket.
