I just picked up a 2011 Classic Watson and I was going to put my 07 Hyperlite 3DS bindings on it, and there is only one width I can set them at. There aren't enough holes to move the width in or out. The width seems a little wider than I normally have them at, but I haven't ridden yet. Hopefully the placement is fine, cuz I wasn't planning on shelling out for new bindings.

Are boards and bindings not universal anymore? Anyone else dealt with this?

Thanks

I had a similar problem with an older hyperlite board and 2010 CWB Faction bindings. There was only on width that would work as well and I actually had a binding come off the board on landing. The two just didn't work together. I ended buying a Watson Classic to go with the CWB bindings and it works perfect now. It's probably more of an age thing that brand thing.

They're still compatible, its just a couple years ago they change the binding screw width from 8inches to 6 inches apart on all brands. And I was going to suggest getting a retrofit kit from your local boardshop but then I realised that that's only for new bindings on an old board and couldn't help you. My bad! Don't know what to say

Hopefully the width isn't an issue then, or I'll be looking at new bindings.....

Yeah you're in a bit of a tough situation, for the reasons Brian laid out. It gets supper messy when you start mixing and matching from '09 and '10, as not everyone made the switch at the same time, and some companies went to 7" inbetween 6 and 8. If you do end up having to shell out for bindings, the new tech is really worth the money, but I understand that it might not be in the budget. Best of luck!

Edit: Here's a little chart that shows compatability of all the major stuff for the last few years.
