Trailer ball height

I am picking up my, new to me, 98 Sky Supreme Saturday and the seller mentioned i should have a drop hitch. at what height do y'all have your trailer ball? Anyone have a similar boat?

depends on height of tow vehicle, tire size,(both truck/trailer) lift kit on truck, etc. Ive got a full size truck and use a 2" drop.

Make sure your trailer is level so the trailer brake (surge) works properly

Rule of thumb is 17-19" off the ground to the top of the ball.

Phaeton you win a GOLD star or the COOKIE of your choice bro. Perfect answer I cannot agree more on the accuracy of 17-19 inches. The real importance of this (besides braking) is to prevent your bearings from becoming abnormally worn on the axle due to irregular weighting. Phaeton is my hero of the day!

My Boatmate trailer last year was level with a 19" high ball, as is my current Extreme trailer.

I'd agree that 17-19" is good, probably leaning toward the 19" end of the scale for most.

18 is the standard that I was told years ago, so 17-19 goes right around it. My Burb is within a 1/4 of 18 depending on fuel load etc.

a good gauge is to stand next to the ball. the top of the ball should be at the center of your knee cap. this of course will vary slightly by a persons stature, but will get you in the ball park.

Thanks all - I think i am in good shape. when the vehicle is at normal ride height it sits at 19, when it is at freeway height it is 17.5 so that fits within what everyone is saying (it is a Range Rover so it has air suspension and self adjusts the ride height)

i would say as long as it is riding level you should be perfect.. if too high the risk of scraping your prop guards on trailer a lot and possible damage to prop as it is lower to ground.
