01 Malibu LSV - windshield frame paint is chipped/flaking pretty heavily from one end to the other along the top. Has anyone removed or repainted the frame before? How much work am I looking at and is there another option besides powder coating?

I had mine sandblasted and powder coated 5 years ago.

Cost around $175 in total. Not a chip on it today.

Not sure of how else besides powder coat.

I just want to touch it up a little bit. I has going to tape and spray paint. Just a few small chips on the black winshield frame and on the black tower.

I've heard of spraying spray paint on a sponge and then like "dabbing" the areas that are missing paint. I could see where this may work like where the paint got "wore" off but not if its "flaking". If you can pull the paint off this technique probably wouldnt work. I have never seen the results but hey try a small area and see what you get. You may be happy with the results you get with very little effort. Anyone heard of this?

FYI,
I realize that you need a serious fix, but if anyone has just a few small chips, a quick inexpensive cover up is to use a black permanent marker such as a Sharpie or Marks-Alot. It's not a real fix, but it looks better than the bare metal shining through.

billy d - I have the same thing happening to my VRide. The paint on my frame started to flake off after I bought a new, very tight, cover. I called my local Malibu dealer, and they said any paint will do, but stay with the flat colors. I have decided not to paint mine, because the cover is only going to rub the paint off again. I went to Pep Boys and found rock deflector tape, and I will be putting that on instead of paint. I think it maybe a bitch to put on with the bend in the frame.

If you do paint, split some pipe insulation and place it over the frame before you cover it. That's what I'm doing now to prevent further flaking.
