How much gear do you have in your boat?

In the process of loading my boat this weekend I realized how much gear I haul around all summer. Is this normal or am I a packrat?

Brett, Yup that's about right! I take EVERYTHING out at the end of the season. This year if it's not snowing or raining I'll take a pic!

You need to loose the paddle.One isn't going to cut it for the X45.That or add 3 more.

Jay, the paddle is required by law. I agree how funny it is, there is no way I could move my boat around with it.

Aaron, yes. I put that additional weight in the front. But I guess there is a cordless drill in that picture that stays in the garage.

Nice. I am always amazed how much crap we keep in the boat.... but I'm pretty sure you got us beat.

I have a clothes rack from a department store in the garage..... full of wet suits & vests. I try to only bring the suits, vests, boards, & foils that I think we're going to be using that day or week, otherwise we'd be chock full every trip out.

So wheres the disco ball?

I take all most all of my gear out of the boat every time I launch and recover.

I laughed out loud when I saw the pic then I started thinking if I layed out all my stuff it would be about the same size. Its amazing how much stuff you can you can pack away in a v drive.

We were starting to bring stuff for "just-in case". It started to be too much(not as bad as you though). Now I like to see how little we can take.

1- water proof ammo box with a few tools in it. It's smaller than a battery.

2- paddles

1- anchor

2-bumpers

4- boards (normally)

1- rope and handle

7-8 life jackets

1- throw able floaty

1- back pack (miscellaneous crap)

Feelin your pain.

X-45 can hold so much stuff, but then you can't get to half of it once it is in.

I started to store it in tubs/tupperware for easy storage/organization. We don't have the wetsuit issue; hope that is just cause it is early spring.

We do suffer from multiple inflatables that you seem to be escaping from. Black Ice and the Liquid Force couch take up a lot of room.

Morganmac, yes the suits are for the early spring, they won't last all summer.
Nu bu, I wrap em up in plastic bags when I put them in the boat, but that's a great idea.
Michael, I did not know this. Come to think of it I've never been asked to show this during a safety inspection but it's on the required list so I've always had it.

I have always wondered what my boat weighs when it's packed up. I should run it across a scale once and find out. When I ride I add an additional 800-1200 in additional water ballast beyond gear, steel ballast, and factory ballast.

Brett, I hope you have a semi to tow that beast with the lead in it. That looks like it has to be at least 1k in lead. You have to be towing ~8500 lbs with a full tank of gas and lead.

4950-dry boat
550-full tank of gas
1000-lead
1200-trailer
200-extra gear
500-extra crap like dual or more batteries, tower accessories, amps and various other crap. That is awesome.

Brett, (cool ass name by the way) I tow with a 2500HD GMC with a Duramax/Allison. It handles it fine, and that includes an 80 gallon gas transfer tank in the back of the truck that I use to hydrate the 45 with. My wife has a brand new Toyota Sequioa that has a 10,000 pound tow capacity and when I put the boat on the Toyota it just completely bottoms it out. The weights I use are steel and only total around 500 lbs. However, its all in the bow which translates to quite a bit of tongue weight. My 13 year old daughter has the arduous task of teaching her old man how to post pictures on line, so I'll have her give me a second lesson tonight and I'll take a few shots of how my tow rig is set up. I live outside of town so getting gas would become quite a chore in the summer if it wasn't for my auxillary tank.

I've read a few comments pertaining to the storage capacity of the X45 which reminds me of how expansive the storage is on either side of the engine. It's funny, with all my junk those two biggest areas are empty except for maybe a rope and a couple of life jackets, because I need the room empty for full sacks when I'm out on the water.
