Hey All,

Can anyone tell me when the major wakeboarding boat mfr's started developing their V drive boats?

Thanks.

CC introduced the v-drive Excel in '91, which evolved into the Super Sport a few years later.

V-drives go back further than that, but were not wakeboard boats. I know that Century made some V-drive back in the 70's (V-drive may be even older, these are just some that I have seen). I also know that Correct Craft made a 454 V-drive back in the 70's as a pleasure boat. I always thought one of the old Century or Correct Craft V-drives would make a cool retro wake boat.

Hey thanks for the responses. I'm anxious to find an older wakeboarding boat, and am fond of the V drive, in lieu of the direct drive. Sounds like mid-90's and newer.

Centurion made a V-drive boat in 1986 and started making Wakeboard specific v-drive in the 1995 range.

Supra was the first inboard boat maker to put a v-drive in a boat but not necessarily the first to market it. I'm sure you can email Skiers Choice's management and get all the details.

Good idea about e-mailing Skier's Choice Management. I've ridden behind older Supra's (Sunsport) and was impressed with the wake, it was a direct drive, though (which is still fine).

Thanks for the info, these discussion boards are great.

Sanger was making V-drives waaaaaay back in the 50's in drag racing type boats. That doesnt answer the specific questions, but I think they started getting marketed for WB in the mid 90's
