Is it really nescesary that you put a tablespoon of oil in each inlet before use?

Can you give me a wiring diagram of how to hook up a DPDT Mastercraft dash switch? I am using the Bosch relays also.

The ballast system is almost finished. 750 lbs in each locker Big Bump Sacs with a simer for each. and a 2000 rule for the center MLS. All I have to do is wire it......

When I first got the Simers, the impellers would stick every now and then. I'd turn on the switch, but nothing would happen. I took out each impeller and soaked them with armor all. Haven't had a problem since.

I used the same relays as you, but I used a SPDT switch. Here's the diagram:

Check out this thread for wiring a lighted DPDT switch, but read the whole thing.

thanks, I do have the lighted ones.

I put some oil in, and may do it every once in ahwhile to make the impellers last longer.

I also hear that if your pumps run in reverse to drain, you should flip them back to forward (or fill) when you're empty for a second so when you go to start the pump next time, the impellar does not have to flip the fins back into the correct direction when the motor first starts up.

The best is silcone grease (plumbing store or o-ring lub).

Once I started using it the pump ran faster, didn't slow down as much when air pasted thru ... all good. Better than virginal olive oil!

What simer pumps are people using these days?

Chris,
You should have just looked in my boat last weekend... next time.

The Simer BW8512 pump only from BE Atlas is what I am using. I use one for the front sack and another for the rear sack. They work good but they are slow. I think there is somebody around here running two or more pumps to push water through a common manifold. They are not ignition protected so you can't put them in the engine compartment.

Both lights come on weather I am filling or draining. I know I could fix this with a couple of diodes but it's low on the priority list. Using a DPDT switch, + and - to center terminals, pump + and - to top terminals, crossed jumbers between top and bottom terminals. Mine draw less than 10 amps when running but they spike about 30 amps at turn on.

I think my teaspoon of oil was gone a long time ago. You don't need to use relays and they don't stick if you don't run them dry. I ran my front one dry and it got stuck. I just hooked the garden hose to the sack filler and pressurized some water back through it and it was fine.

When you order the pumps don't forget to order spare impellers, they are cheap and come 3 to a pack. You will need them eventually.

The best hose I have found is only $0.52/foot on e-bay from Tanks & More. Search for PVC suction & discharge hose, username 6122yale. They also have all of the fittings and valves. There is really no point in using anything bigger than 3/4 to the Simers.

Sorry for it being the "other" site.

Hair,

Put a T connector with a screw cap on it in line just before the pump. Unscrew the cap squirt a little WD40 before use, problem solved.

I used to have a system with 3 simers. I put a little binding slime in there before the first use, but certainly not every time. One trick is to mount the pump so that both of the hoses go uphill from the pump. That way, there will always be a some water in the impeller housing leftover from the last use.

One of my three pumps would get stuck sometimes. If it would not start in the direction I wanted it to go, I would reverse for a second to get it going, then switch it back the other way.
