I have a Sony 280GTX (2)Channel amp and one pair of 6.5" tower speakers. I want to install another pair of speakers but don't know if I can add on to my 2 channel amp making a total of 4 speakers on one 2 channel amp?

You can wire them in parellel and the amp will be in 2ohm mode(amp may not take the heat), or in series which will be 8ohm mode(half the power). Or you can run 4 8ohm speakers in parellel and it will be a 4 ohm load which would be perfect. Hope I didn't confuse you too much.

Thanks Frenchman, My speakers are rated at 40 watts and 4ohm impedance. It sounds like the only way to use this amp is to wire the speakers in series with an 8ohm load.

Just remember to make sure your amp has enough power to run the speakers in 8ohms. You will lose a lot of power, but your amp will run really cool.

Just remembered, you can also go to radio Shack and get a resistor to put inline and still run your amp in parallel. The resistor will bump you back up to 4ohms instead of 2ohms. Then you should be set.

Check your amp manual. Allot of amps can safely run at 2 ohms.
