I have the old Airguide speedometer and Perfect Pass installed on my boat (Prostar 190). I would like to update the speedometer (also because it does not work well) and I would like to know if it could be possible to use a modern paddle-wheel operated speedometer and derive the paddle wheel signal for the speedometer directly from the paddle wheel signal of Perfect Pass. Would this cause problems? How could it be done?

You can get the Faria speedometer that runs off the paddle wheel. It's a pretty easy bolt in, you might need get a signal splitter cable from Perfect Pass but it should be easy to do.

Hi Mike, thank you for your reply. What do you think could be a suitable signal splitter cable to derive the Perfect Pass paddle wheel signal?

The cable from the paddle wheel has a special little 3 prong plug where it goes into the brain. You will need a cable that allows you to tap into those plugs, it's special, but PP can make one for you. Call Perfect Pass, they can help you out: (902) 468-2150

Luca, that airguide speedometer should work great as long as the air lines are cleared. Why not just use the speedometer on your PP?

A warning: After installing Perfect pass in my boat, my Faria gauge would sometimes be flaky (i.e not reading correct speed, moving about wildly). After some testing I found that the paddlewheel signal was being pulled down by the gauge. I built a small signal buffer/amplifier and now I have 2 speedos and perfect pass running from the same paddlewheel no problem.

My wifes uncle had the same problem on his X7 when we installed the Perfect pass, (signal being sucked down), but for whatever reason replacing the paddlewheel fixed it.

Adam, the Airguide now works well, it is only its aesthetics that is not pleasant to me.
I like to have an additional speedometer in case the PP fails or the paddle wheel does not operate well. It is also true that if I drive two speedometer from the same paddle wheel signal I do not solve the problem, but at least the aesthetics of the instrument is improved.
