Okay, my family has one coming in like one week from now and I’m dam exited. We live in Australia so like, it has taken its fair share of time to get us one but the road trip to Melbourne will be great!

I have a few questions though; has anyone found any bugs in the new 2003 model? Anyone come up with a better package with a different company and how does putting fat sacks and so forth effect the chassis and insurance?

We took a look at the Lewis eclipse, but the overall end finish was just a touch shabby for a boat of that price. What’s the cost Vs. Benefits ratio over a full-blown tower and a simple high pole? It there any other real advantage to a big wake tower over a high pole apart from the stacking space?

Lastly, I’m looking for this tower, its one I seen a magazine on some weird American wake boat. Its polished alloy and it folds back onto a stand where it just clicks in. Its so simple and attractive but I can't seem to find one like it in Australia. How much do you think an engineer would make one for? If I could buy this tower, it would solve my high pole Vs. wake tower dilemma.

Cheers

Zak,

On a 2003 Malibu Response I would only consider either the Skylon Swoop Classic tower or the Titan Series II tower. I wouldn't even consider an extended pylon for this level of boat. The Skylon and Titan towers are both OEM and have been chosen by Malibu as their factory towers on all Wakesetters. That means exact fit and the highest quality.

You can check both of these out at:

Mike, any relation to Tom Hellwig (Skylon owner?)

Zak, I've got a '99 Response LX, and it is indeed a great boat. I use the wedge, 300lbs in the trunk, 2 Fat Boys (500lbs. each, 1 on each side of the motor box) and about 150lbs under the dash. I've got one of the origional Skylon Tuna Towers (my boat was the prototype), and it works really well.

With the way I have it weighted, it puts up an awesome wake. I'll be putting it up for sale this year and looking for either a VLX or SAN. I only have 2 reasons for this, with all the weight in it, it tends to be a little tight cockpit wise, and the waterline is a little high (I've taken my share of rollers over the bow, none really threatening, though, I worry about the amps). Again, the wake is not a consideration in this decision.

Enjoy your new boat!
