Adam - Most LED lighting jobs are 150-5000.
Nate - Good to see you on here. Hope the Sanger is doing well. Jim's X-45 is pretty insane. I am looking for a LSV but this is not mine.
Ian - I started receiving product for your boat. The MB will be getting the true CA treatment before heading out to you.
Hate - Thanks for the props man. Good looking slumped pictures of your boat you have been posting.

Jeff - I don't mind being busy 6 days a week right now and staying late to get things done. I still have Sundays to get out as long as I don't break a rib. Now once the days get long enough for rides after work it might be a different story.

Ben, you mind sharing where you got the LED's and controller from?

I emailed Superbright the other day about their RGB stuff, and they really wouldn't recommend cutting the strip into sections. I told them I've been soldering for 17 years and they said they've had people that have done it for longer that had trouble. I assume the leads where you'd solder are really close together. I'm looking to do the interior of my boat similar to this but haven't found anything other than the superbright stuff just yet. I'm setup with Mouser but haven't tried them out yet.

John, I've been using Ozinum.com LED's in a few installs with good luck so far.

I'm not seeing any RGB's on Oznium though.

John,

What I see at "oznium" are what they call the "Million Color" LED's, and they DO have a couple RGB controllers, like this one:

Different from superbright - but might work.

Todd they don't have any "Million Color" flexible LED strips.

Here ya go Jon. They have them as "million" color.

Or the pre-wired ribbon style

Thanks Jarrod. I didn't see in the right hand corner where they offered the colors that the Million color was on there. 16' roll is 6 weeks out though

DOH. Well I tried.

You did, and I appreciate it. I may opt for some of the 6" ones for now to see how well this project would work.

Anyone else?

Hit up Grant he has a good source. I had nothing but troubles with the RGBs I sourced from Oznium, luckily they took all of them back.

PM me I have a line on very, very low cost RGBs from HK. Have 5 reels arriving early next week to sample them. They are coated to hold up in a wet application.
Old     (soundbox)      Join Date: Oct 2007       04-06-2010, 3:52 PM Reply
John - I have had really good luck with all of Oznium.coms products. For this boat I had to have the controllers built because they both use wireless RF remotes and I needed to have different frequencies for them to operate independently. Although the product I used were excellent I wouldn't recommend the source.

We had no problem cutting the reels to length and soldering the RGBs. This Malibu has 84 solder connections to the RGBs (not including controllers or cable runs) w/o any problems.

Johnny - I would be interested to hear your feedback on the reels you have coming in.

Sent you a pm Ben.

A little more on the RGB qualities. The particular RGBs I was using from Oznium had the resistors soldered lengthwise, the ones that Ben is using have the resistors soldered widthwise. When you are wrapping cupholders you must use tape with widthwise resistors or they will pop the solder joints from the bending as you wrap them around the cupholders. I was having my issues with products from two years ago. At that time I could not find other options. Also my speaker fixtures were designed for the narrower single color LED strips.

Notice the little black square going up and down on this tape, that's the resistor, it needs to go up/down not side to side.

I really need that controller, you think you could point me in a direction?

i sure wish you guys would give up your distributors for these LED's and controllers. I'm kinda scared to spend $200 on a reel of RGB's and more on a controller if they're not proven.

As posted by Grant today:

I got the RGB's from a guy in San Jose. The company is called Vas-tech 408 786 7699 The guy's name is William. !!!!!Disclamer!!!!
IMO if you know your stuff then getting product from William is cool otherwise go with a company with customer support. I know my way around LEDS pretty good and with William there is NO CUSTOMER support. If you have a problem your own your own. Don't expect a owners manual or how to or anytype of help if your stuck or need a return your S.O.L. It works for me because he is local and I can work around problems that the average guy cant. I wish I could give him 2 thumbs up to my wake world peep's. So if you get stuff and you have a problem you have been warned. I wish there was a more user friendly RGB led product / supplyer.

So why dont you put together a little package that works, using our friend William's parts... Charge a little $ premium, and sell it to us laymen wake worlders that want to plug and play

That is impressive work Ben. Always nice to see the care and passion you put into each customers project. Well done! I think this boat would be aptly named as "Seizure Setter".

that is siiick.
my company just completed a million dollar plus residential fountain project. It features a setup out of canada powered by Philips iPlayers. individually programmable LEDs are amazingly fun. I can't even believe this is in a boat. speechless and drooling...
