Why are they paper? they should be marine style, non paper, i dont think you can do anything to clean them, but maybe just get new marine type speakers.

If they're paper its time for the bin... though I doubt they are paper, few manufacturers use Paper anymore....

Any ideas what they are?

It's lacquered carbon fiber.

Use a LITTLE bit of simple green and wipe them gently. Should come right off. Use care not to soak the surface completely.

Kevin, I would dilute it. Straight is a tough customer, and I wouldn't want to damage the speakers. Better yet, call a stereo shop and ask them. I use Jon over at Radioactive 909-464-1010. Good luck.

After you clean them, visit www.speakersox.com ( I got covers for my speakers and they are nice ).

GD.. funny you mention speaker sox.
I have had them on for 3 years and was kinda wondering if that was some of the reason I had the residue on the speakers. The Sox keep the cans clean, But do they hold in some of the moisture causing the blackness of the cones?
