For some reason when I try to do a backroll it looks just like a backwards cartwheel with tip over tail. I have tried it like 30 or 40 times and keep doing the same thing. I have watched all of the instructional videos and I think I am doing what they tell you to do but I am not sure. So your input would be great!

It basically is a backwards cartwheel motion. What exactly happens when you try it?

The question is what happens on the landing? Do you butt check? Come up short? Catch an edge? What?

I keep butt checking on my backroll attempts....board lands on heelside edge and then immediately slips out and I land on my butt hard...anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

I have been doing the same thing. I wanted to know what it was called. It is a little different then the backroll definition. It is the definition of a front flip but I am doing it backwards. I have landed a few times but board slides out same as you.

Your body position when leaving the wake is exactly how you'll land. My guess is that you're squatting in on your approach "In the Seated chair position." This is why you're landing sliding out on your butt. Stand tall at the wake, wait for the pop then throw the backroll. Good Luck.

Stand tall when leaving the wake, rope near lead
hip, chest out on landing.

Steven and Larry....thanks for the tips...I believe that you're both right on with your assessments. I think I need to stand taller, wait longer, and then roll it and concentrate on spotting the landing. thanks for chiming in.

After spotting the landing try looking for the shoreline.

A bigger wake might help. I had the same problem learning a backroll on an unweighted Ski Nautique. I tried countless times, landing on my heels and butt. As soon as I got behind a weighted boat I landed my first one and then 2 more in succession.
