Not like it matters (top Speed). I was reading the "How big is your motor", Thread and was wondering how fast is everyone going with there Boat and Motor combo? so Here it is: 02 Air Nautique GT-40 47 MPH It dosen't seem to make a diffrance for me weather I have 8 people in the boat or just myself 47 mph is top's, at about 4500 RPM. And I don't go that speed or RPM for very long It seem's stressfull on the Motor (high rpm's)

Somewhere right around 65 is about right. Remember folks, I have an outboard fish and ski, so go fast is something it does.

All depends on the prop. Depending on the altitude, I'll run anywhere from a 17" to a 23". So, top end is somewhere from 38 mph to mid fifties. That can get interesting in a 17' boat!

My '00 Air Nautique with the GT40 runs 46MPH at around 4500RPM pretty consistantly regardless of the load. I have run it at that speed/RPM for 15 minutes straight more than once, trying to get back to the boat ramp from the other end of the lake before dark. IMO the motor should be able to take it, but then again maybe I'm jaded from all those years I spent as a test engineer at Ford's Romeo Engine Plant dynolab.

Dan any chance would you know why my ford 4.6L romeo engine make a clatter sound on morning start up?

My best guess is that oil is draining out of the chain tensioners for the cam drive, so when you first start it up there is slack in the chains until the tensioners pump up. This is not a durability issue but can be annoying.

70.5 mph (GPS) with the "speed" boat ('99 Lavey Craft XTSki, 454Mag) but we don't ski behind that one! The "ski" boat ('77 Slickcraft) does 50.4 on the GPS with a 351W, 4bbl Edelbrock (GREAT carb!), cam and intake. The ski boat is also running a switch pitch prop (Quicksilver, 17-21"). Now if only the lakes weren't frozen! Oh well, the sleds are ready to go!

Mine goes 70 ave on the highway and about 40ish in the water. Being that we have no real need to go top speed, I am not sure. Top speed interest is more for the Skeeter bass boat type of croud. There is probably a forum on the bassmasters website if you are interested.

To answer "who cares". Every dork sitting on the dock bank fishing when I launch at a public boat ramp. They are always shocked when I tell them 46 mph. If I have been asked that once I have been asked 100 times. I have been tempted to tell them about 100 to 110 mph just to pull there leg.

Yep - It's always the same 2 questions. What's that roll cage for and how fast does it go?

I guess the point is that my "skeeter" can go 65 as well as slow down when I want to and throw a pretty respectable wake because of the tilt and trim as well as filling up my livewells for more weight. Not bad for a Bassmasters type boat (Message edited by skeeter on December 08, 2002)
