Great way to beat the heat. Alec is looking awesome. Where are you taking the pictures from? Are you on the swim deck?

Hi Robert Alec is riding even better after a few days down in Texas riding with the other Shredstixx guys.So as far as the photos go thats top secretno i just hang out a little bit out of the corner but still in the boat. But I have had a lot of practice over the yr.One thing that helps is I use a circular polarizer on my camera to cut glare & darkens the sky

Definitely great pics. We have a Canon digital rebel that takes great pics, but we don't use it as much as we should. At the end of the day, I love taking and watching video. With my workflow at home and the AppleTVs, it is always accessible and I have fun editing stuff together. Our new camers do HD, and that makes it even funner for me. But many times I miss seeing the pics from the rebel. We video tape every session, and we need to switch out to camera on occasion. Just gotta get in the habit of doing it.

How far are you hanging out, and how low is the camera to the water?

Whitney is the photographer, but I am sure she would love that. I use iMovie and Final Cut Pro. iMovie is GREAT for quick workflow, but when I start doing picture in picture and stuff, FCP is limitless. iMovie 09 is an amazing tool, and doesn't get the credit it deserves. And I am someone who has been doing digital video since its inception, and have used just about every pro tool. Dennish was over at my house and drooling at my setup.

I have a 2008 Mac Pro, with 2 Quad Core processors at 3ghz, which is basically 8 processors. The beast has 16 gigabytes of ram, a couple of terabytes of internal storage, but I have the entire house wired with Category 6 cableing and am using professional hi speed full duplex gigabit switches in the house to distribute the network. My mac pro is hooked up to 2 30" LCD displays on my desk, plenty of screen real estate. Then a couple of large hardware RAID systems running linux as file servers in the basement. Everything in the house is all networked together, including my home stereo and the apple tvs, xbox 360, which can see all of my music and videos on the servers in basement. All of this can be controlled from my iPhone.

Yes, I am about as big a geek as they come.

It would be great to have you guys up here for a weekend or something, since you are not too far. You can geek out on my video stuff, and I will pull down my 9 foot screen and turn on the HD projector and we can watch vid and look at pictures we shot that day out on the lake. And you could show Whitney some great tips and what to buy for out on the water shots. It would be fun.

One thing that would be cool, is we could get RJ and Alec surfing at different times, and use the pontoon and/or waverunners to chase and take some really cool pictures. You can show us how to get the best images, and we will bring the video cameras. Contact me off list, we will set it up. I know RJ and Alec got along well.

BTW, we also do a mean bbq.

Robert, can you tell a poor noob with a new HDD HD camcorder how to convert the AVCHD/m2ts files to an uploadable format?

I have Nero 8. Showtime plays the files. And Nero will convert the files to a mp4 format, but nothing seems to play them. Or at least I don't know which codec to pic.

The end goal is to be able to edit them with Adobe Premier Pro and upload them to vimeo or youtube in a HD format.

Thanks!

Vince, great shots. When I shoot from the swim step, I don't use a waterproof housing. Just avoid the water, but a tiny bit of drops never hurt anything. Wipe it off as quickly as possible. I'm constantly jumping from the step to the back of the boat for a towel. haha.

BTW....117 here yesterday. and humid.

100 and it is calm at the lake flat. Got to love the dry heat. I might go ride today then hit the river afterwards or jump off some cliffs. To many choices lol

Dude, 117, that's nuts.

I don't even want to walk to the mailbox. and we have to walk about two blocks because my daughter has her first job this weekend, taking care of some neighbors' dogs. Pointless to take the car, cause it is even hotter in the car for that short a drive. Just nasty.

I haven't been to Shadow Lake in a couple weeks, but I bet the water temp there is over 90 right now.

@rhawn

You can use adobe premiere to edit them/import them directly.

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/403/kb403297.html

When it converts to mp4, you can play them if you install quicktime.
