Alright ordered the Gor-tex virtual dripless packing for my 02 Centurion Hurricane and having trouble finding the right tool to 1)not mar the crap out of the brass nut or shaft 2) work within a very limited space. Anyone had an experience with this tool at West Marine or similar? Any better tools out there? I am going to order 2, one to hold the lock nut while loosening the packing nut. Thanks all.

I have used this wrench without issue. If that did not work I was going to make a couple wrenches out of 1/8" flat plate.

Thanks for the response, I was a little worried about the handle length.

You can buy that wrench in the plumbing dept at Lowe's or HD. It makes it a little easier, but it's still a PITA.

I just used 2 440 chanellocks and a rag to buffer it and that worked just fine for me even through the hole.

Ski dim sells a wrench that works perfect. If you have a V drive there isn't much room and the short wrench from skidim.com is about the only option to make the job easier.
