how much did it cost you?

yea, we have used it several times. the sprocket i had was a 54 tooth, adn it was to slow, so i put a 48 on it, and havnt ran it with that yet. im sure it will do the trick though. and we used it without paint, so it was just care metal,

blake, i cant give you a good number. i had another winch, with a CC using this motor, and had a different spool, and we bought twice the metal we needed. so we decided to build another frame, but a tav on it, and build a spool like this, so between the 2, with tons of extra parts due to the CC the sprocket for the CC the 54 tooth sprocket for the tav, and the two chain sizes, im at about $1500. alot more then i wanted to spend. there goes a car any time soon

David what size chain are you running and where did you find the 48 tooth sprocket? I am in the same situation that you were in.
Thanks

size 41. and the 35 chain you can get sprockets in any size, 41.. not so much

http://www.mfgsupply.com/GoMiniSprocketsSteel41.html/mv_session_id=hwsuQsz7 fast delievery, good price, and those sprockets are extremely strong. you have to paint them though, or they will rust

What kind of guards do you guys put on yours? ive got a piece of metal thats 2 inches high and 5 inches wide with 2 wholes in it welded in between the motor and the spool, not sure if you can see it in the pics, but im going to put a guard over the spool so i dont get nailed with salt water. what do you guys use?

Did you figure out the free rollin problem you had? does it unwind with ease now?

i rotated the tav by doing some grinding on it, its level now, and i changed the sprocket. and now its easy to pull. no joke here, its a good 3 times easier to pull. it was soo hard to pull. im so happy with it now, its perfect for what i need

If anyone is lookisn to build one. this should help a ton

http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_21285_21285 ---one. you will have to cut this to length-axle

these are the links to pretty much all of the parts you will need to build a winch. you will have to buy the steel for the frame, the nuts and bolts, and key stock. I cant find where i bought my key stock. but it came in 1 1/4 inch pieces and you need a total of 3 so i bought 6. they are very cheap.
The links above are the cheapest is was able to find all of these parts. and all of them had quick shipping, i had no problems with any of these companies or parts. One thing i highly recommend, is that every Allen set screw, you put blue loc tite on they tend to come loose after about 5 minutes of run time. put some loc tite on, and let it sit for a a few hours before you run it. Hope this helps

I have a 48 and its too slow... I thought going up in tooth count on the large sprocket made it faster?

If the big sprocket is on the spool...
More teeth = longer time to fully rotate. Fewer teeth = shorter

what motor are you running luker? and smaller teeth on the spool makes it faster. bigger gives more torque. and more on the tav makes it faster, and less gives you more torque. and a huge thing is the size of your spool. 6 inches is the min you would want as your diamater. i know someone who has 8 inches. runs a 65 tooth on the spool, 12 on the tav, and has a 9 hp motor, and it will pull at like 27

In other words... Bigger sprocket on the spool will deliver more torque and a lower top speed. Less teeth will deliver less torque, but a higher top speed.

The opposite is true of the front sprocket.

What you need to find out is if you are limited by horsepower or RPM's. If you are limited by RPM's, then a smaller rear sprocket will give you more top end. If you're limited by HP, then you're kinda screwed. You might get more speed by using a bigger sprocket and running higher rpm's, but no guarantee. Follow?

5.5 hp with 48 teeth on the spool and 12 teeth down at the torque converter. I believe my spool diameter is too small as well at only like 3.5 inches.

3.5 inches is WAYYYYYY to small. espically for a 5.5 hp. you should go to at least at 6 or a 7. ive been told by many people 6 is the very minimum you should go. hate to tell you luker. but time to build a new spool.
