Why does everything seem to be going wrong at once?

We were at the lake yesterday when we hooked a tree with the wedge on our 2000 Malibu. There was no damage to the gellcoat, fiberglass, prop, or rudder so I guess we're pretty lucky. We got the boat back on the trailer and were able to take the wedge off and go back out and slalom.

My question now is can we just straighten the wedge with a press or do we need to try something else? And is there some other stuff we need to check to make sure nothing else has been damaged?

I know I'm no the first to do this and I won't be the last. So if I could get some help from some of you malibu guys who have already gone through this that would be great!

You should take it to your local dealer and have it checked out. If the angles are off just a touch it can put some tremendous strain on the transom of your boat.

plus if it is bent back by you, and then re-breaks it could be worse then the first time and bend a lot more and do more damage. 2000 should be old style with 2 bolts attaching the wing at each arm. later then went to 3 per arm and now they are all one piece.

They just warranteed my wedge for the third time the hydro foil on the bottom would come loose and snap screw heads. I just noticed the new one does have three screws per side. Whats with the one piece? That sounds like it would be the best? Well it work on my 06 vlx?

^^^ They are now welded and don't have screws in them.

ok...thanks!

Bret- if the angles are off just a touch why would that make a big difference. I'm sure there is already a lot of pressure on the transom.
