So my buddy had his gen3 ipod stolen and replaced it with a new one. Now he gets a "device not supported" error message when he connects the ipod to his Pioneer HU. I researched it for him and found out Apple made changes to the new ipods that prevents them from being recognized. I'd heard you can change the cable or something to correct that, anyone have this issue and know the answers?

I got a new iPod a month ago. I had the same problem. It doesn't charge on any of my old devices... iHome, outlet plug, etc. It does play on all the old stuff, just doesn't charge.

That is a "feature" of the new ipods. Enjoy.

Thanks for the answers. I just found out as well. The older ipods used the 12v firewire technology to charge. A couple of years ago they changed to 5v USB, hence the reason anything with the 12v connection won't work! Geez! A $30-$40 adapter fixes it. Gotta love it. Thanks all!

yeah, it's pretty lame. i had to replace my ipod input in the boat with the new IS75 to charge. lot of unhappy campers, but just more proof firewire is dead.
