tried searching, no luck

how are you guys compressing your jpgs down to less than 150k? i wanted to post some pics from the seattle boat show from my new camera, but i couldn't get them to look decent after compressing.

I use Aperture and constrain the jpeg on export to 1000x1000 and use a quality setting of 4-6 depending on the shot. If there is a lot of sky you can use less compression, a real busy scene you need more. 150kb is very limiting however, right on the edge of the image going to shizz (many of mine have)

If you constrain to 800 or 640 pixels you can use less compression and have a better looking post as well.

photoshop:
File -> Save For Web. Set image size accordingly and save file. You SHOULD be able to get 800x533 sized pictures down to as little as 80kb depending on how detailed the photo is, and they'll still look good.

what scott said. I just use Photoshop and saveas and drop the quality slider down until it goes under 150k

I don't compress the files - I resize them. I use photoshop and paintshop pro. For resizing I typically use paintshop pro. You can reduce your image size until it's in your file size range.

By resizing, your picture gets small but maintains a lot of clarity. By compressing you maintain size and reduce clarity.

Actually - I crop the picture first - Get rid of the crap i don't need. If it isn't below my max file size then I reduce the size until it does.
