Weighting 08 X-15

Been playing around with the weight and just cant seem to get it right. I ride goofy so ive been filling the starboard side hardtank, kgb half full to 3/4's full, and about 300-400lbs on the seat. And about 4 people in the boat all starboard side, usually 3 in the back by the sac and 1 in the front. Wake just doesnt have any power or length. Riding an Obrien Alias 5-0. Almost can ride without the rope but just not there yet. any help would be great. thanks!

Is that 300-400 lbs in the fron seats??

No sorry, 300-400 lbs on the rear starbaord seat. We put it there bc some are regular foot and the sac needs to be slid from side to side.
Only front weight is the kgb half full or 3/4 at times and a person

I think you need more weight up front to get the whole boat to sit deeper in the water, this will get you a longer smoother wake. I say I think because I too have an 08 X15 and still working on dialing it in. We can get a tall wake but not long so we surf very close to the boat. Also being able to ride with out the rope has a lot to do with the rider, how long have you been surfing?

yeah i am too very close to the boat, i can pretty much ride without the rope like a foot off the platform but for me that is just to close and sketchy. I will try more weight up front, i am a beginner wakesurfer so that may have a lot to do with it. Thanks for the help. If you ever get your dialed in let me know, ill do the same .

We had an X15 last season and had a pretty dialed surf wake.
We wouldn't run any weight up front, just really focused on the back corner we were surfing.

Goofy side we would fill stock starboard tank, plus a 550 in the locker on top of that, and probably another 150-200 on top of that completley filling the back locker. Also had a 350 on the seat in front of the motor on that side.
We would run about 11 mph and could ride WAY back of the boat.

Pretty much mirror that for the port side and the wake was still really good, but the goofy side was a little better.

We tried using weight in front but it didn't help.
We really tried everything and this is what worked best.

We also had a different prop, but I don't remember exactly what dimensions.

do you remember what sacs you used in the lockers, I am looking for some.

We had FatSac Pro X W707s in the lockers, and according to their website they hold about 700lbs so I guess I was off a little bit. Then we would add a couple of fat bricks or another long sac on top of that and fill in as much space as we could and still close the hatch.
And the sac on the seat was a Pro X vdrive sac, about 400 lbs.

One more question, were these Fatsacs hooked up to the exsiting ballast system or stand alone? I want to buy some but not sure if I want to plumb them in or not. Thanks

Edgar, What speed is that at, i feel like my wake isnt as wide??

By the end of last seaon on my buddies boat for regular we had full center, full port, 2 150 lb.bricks in the back storage, and 400 on the port side on the seats with everybody but the driver on that side. It worked out pretty well. I only have pictures of the above setup minus the 400 lb. sack in it.

We rode at about 11mph. A little faster on the port side. But thats just what our boats speedo said, so who knows.

We had the big sacks in the locker plumbed in to work off the stock ballast pumps.
Had the system running to fill the stock tanks then overflow into the sacks and had the sacks overflowed out the side stock holes. Emptied the same way. Worked pretty good most of the time, sometimes it wouldn't empty the sacks all the way.

Depending on weight we rode anywhere from 11.5-14.

Having all the weight on one side makes a big difference for us. Also putting the bulk of it in the middle and a sac up front lengthens the wake and allow us to ride further back. Matching rider weight, skill and board type has been crucial for us, all the guys over 200 pounds have a hard time riding further back in the wake unless they are on a flatter faster board.

The left side was mushy until we added the weight and sped up to 14.

Wow, i need to have that wake, ok i will mess around more with my weight, got one person to ride without a rope this weekend on the port side but the wake was still slightly washed on the starboard side. Meraculus, do you know how much weight you had? I had all my hard tanks full, 550#'s i think a 400# fat sac on the starboard seat, 5 people in the boat and the wake was ok, but nothing like yours. Help!!! haha.

We just kept experimenting with adding sacs and moving them around and the wake kept getting better.

i had an X15 and i'm goofy so all we used was an enzo sac plus the factory ballast( no kgb). try that i think you'll be happy!!

Here is the wake on my X-15. We have two sacs in the locker. One on the seat. Two stacked up on the floor and one in the front on the surf side. We go 14 mph.

Eddie how much do those sacs weigh in the locker, on the seat, and the one in the front?

The two in the locker, seat, and in the front are the fly high Pro X Series V-Drive Wake Surf Sac, supposedly they weigh 400 a piece but I have my doubts that they are that heavy. The two in the locker can't be filled all of the way, the one that is stacked on the top is probably 1/2 full. The two sacs stacked on the floor are Skylon Fat Boys that supposedly weigh 550 when full but again I have my doubts that they are that heavy.

Another quick question, the river i ride in is about 6-9 ft deep on average. But there is a small spot that is 15-19 ft. Ill be on the rope in the shallower area and the second we hit the deep water i can ride with no rope no problem. Does depth have a big deal to with the power of the wave. I assume at a certain depth the wave will hit the bottom and lose power. We now circle the deep part, haha. Need to find deeper water and soon.

I always ride in a lake but from what I was told depth of the water makes a big difference. I know the wakesufing event during Boardstock in Clear Lake CA was cancelled because the competition area was not deep enough.

so here is what I have so far. This is with stock ballast filled and 1 750lb fat sac in rear locker filled about 3/4's. The pic with me riding is just getting going so we haven't planed out yet.

Looks surfable to me.

When we speed up the whitewash on the lip goes away, it's usually a trade off as the wake gets smaller but longer.

In the second photo it looks like the boat isn't leaning very much. Having the wake side corner tilting to near the water line helps the wake.

don't get me wrong, I am happy with the wake. The pictures are a bit deceiving.

I have been filling the starboard side rear tank, a 440# in the rear starboard locker, a 440# on the seat on the starboard side, and about 4-5 people. Port side is a little better but im goofy so i dont care about that. Also i have kinda shallow water, 6-9 ft on average. I think that might be the problem but i hope i can get a descent surf wake with the shallow water

Rob, have you tried to add a sac to the front of the boat? I put one on the floor in the nose. This will make the pocket a little longer. I fill the internal center ballast as well.

Thanks Eddie i will try that, have messed around a little but i only have the 2 450# sacs. I am getting another soon, prob a 750 so i will mess around with the weight more.

put one of the 450 where Eddie suggest and the 750 in your rear locker and maybe try the other 450 on the floor of the side you are surfing

If I remember correctly getting the dark side good took more time. Here's a picture of Ed riding deep, Ed's 7'3" so the wake is actually much bigger than it looks

^^^ 7'3!!!! I just heard Yao Ming is out for 09-10 season, if surfing doesnt work out maybe he can try out for the rockets!!
