Can the rider hear 6.5" co-axials? Would the rider be able hear 6.5" seperates better?

I can hear my kicker k60's ok with an mtx thunder 175x powering them. I'm gonna get another set and a better amp though.

I can hear mine (Rockford Fosgate HPC1206) in PVC tubes. But like Greg says, "gonna get another set" so everynoe else can hear, too!!

Ral, did you make your own tubes?

I hear mine just fine, nice and clean. Of course you also have wind and boat noise to deal with but with the right speakers and amp it's not a problem.

Glen,
Yeah I made my own. I posted my simple plan recently:

Ty,
I have the four stock Clarions + 10" sub. I will be upgrading the sub to 12", but not before the two additional tubes. I have the stock Clarion amp powering the six speakers (4 boat speakers on front ch, 2 tower on rear ch.)and a separate amp to power the sub. By no means, though, do I put out the wattage these other guys do.

I like Grant(whitechocolate)'s awesome setup...one that has my creative juices flowing.

We have 1 pr of MB Quart 6 1/2 coax. You can hear them just fine while riding. They are powered by a 400w Alpine amp.

how come most people use mb quart?
Old    xtigeman            04-18-2003, 2:01 PM Reply
Because they come in Boss, maybe the reason.

I have heard a single pair of 6.5s crystal clear while riding on a friends boat. I never tried a single set of 6.5s on mine although a wire popped loose one day and my whole left side of my tower went down. I heard that side drop off and the right three remained loud and clear (2) 6.5s and a 5.25. So it is possible.

I have the wakedesigns tubbies (yes I know they suck)I can not hear them very well when I am riding. They are powered by a 400watt Crossfire Amp. Hopefully I will be putting some new ones up this summer.

First off with the right speakers, Canisters and enough power you can hear them no problem.

Ty,
Get about ANY reputable speaker and send it some clean wattage, and you can hear the damn things! You MUST have an amp to tower speakers, your deck will NOT do it. Want to really hear it? Send it MORE clean wattage, until it blows, then add another pair and you're good for the summer.

Ty, I cannot send emails to respond. Check out 6.5 CDT High Definitions. Those 6.5 are loud and they have incredible sound quality. They are not too too expensive either.

I have played around with cdt before but has been a while. can you refresh my memory on what cdt stands for?

Also, what do you think about the pioneer rev series?

I got a set of the Infinity Reference 652i speakers and I love them, but my amp is under powered for me and I am about to order a new amp. The speakers sound great, but after 17 years of working on aircraft, my hearing isn;t what it used to be. I am going to add another set (probably same speakers) and a 150wattx2 amp to power them. Using two sets at 2 ohms sould be enough power to push 4 speakers. I am hoping that I will be able to hear it then.

I helped a friend make some speaker tubes from 6" pvc pipe. We cut disks of high density (14 ply) 3/4" plywood (home depot) and held them in with 4 countersunk screws from the outside of the pipes. Then we used bondo to make it all smooth and waterproof and hide the screws. We just drilled holes and used U brackets to hold them to the tower. Sealed all holes with silicone.

On the front we used the trick where you cut a 1 1/2" section of the pipe, then chop a piece out of it and glue it inside the lip of your main pipe as a place to mount the speakers ( I think this idea originally came from the mboard somewhere).

Finally, we drove the first set with 150 watts and couldn't here them because of the ambient noise (running along bridge windbreak with lots of cars going by).

So we added a second set driven by 100 watts. Now we can hear them.

Advice - mount the outer set at slight angles away from midline, so the rider can hear when they go outside the wake.

good luck!

-Claud

we had some kicker 6.5's and they were ok if they were cranked up and amped right. but we now have 6.9's and they are much louder.

B-60's, Sony CDX-M630 deck, and MTX 8302 amp. Any idea how well I might be able to hear these? Anybody know if the stock Clarion amp in '01 X-Star has a bass boost?

Will the Boss Ripper 495 be enough to power 4 speakers on the tower? It's 150x 2 at 4 ohms, so I figure it will do fine at 2. Thoughts?

I have 4 6.5's on My tower. The rider can hear them. I use a crossover to reduce the low signal to minimize distortion and crank them. I have the amp set up on a switch so I can shut them off when nobody is riding. Works out pretty nice.
I am running 4 crystals

What amps are all of you running on the mb quarts? I've been trying to get mine to sound right. I'm thinking of a memphis audio amp but i'm not sure. I had a mtx 4202 and it sucked. Any suggestions?

seperates with x-over is way better than co-ax speakers.
i've got six sets of infinity seperates( two on the tower) and four 12" jl audio w7 subs powered by fou amps and you can hear the mids and highs plain as day and damn near feel the bass on an 80 foot rope. however that cost $7300.00. you can do alot with 6.5's. thats what most competition stereos use. its only limited by your check book.
$200. seperates and a $500.00 amp would do you nicely. infinity or boston seperates and hifonis amps with jl audio subs is my brain cell depleating choice for deafing loud, crisp , clean sound. but thats just me. oh and mb quartz speakers are enginered to run off of deck power, it sounds wierd, but they were designed to run off of low power like 50 watts/channel.
