Just got my new NVS 1010's mounted last weekend and finally got to give them a blast today. I'm really happy with the quality and sound of these speakers. It is really LOUD and clear behind the boat. About half way through our session the park ranger came motoring out and asked us to turn it down. He was cool about it and said he thought it was a band playing or something, the station is at least a 1/4 mile away
Thanks to Duane at NVS for all the help and answering all my stupid questions. I highly recommend dealing with these guys.
If you haven't heard this set up you owe it to yourself to give it a listen.
Here are some pic's from this morning

Wow…Nice set up! Bet you can make friends with the bass fisherman in the AM with those things.

What amps and how much power are you feeding em? What are you using as a fader to control the volume separate from the in boat speakers?

Thanks Jeff,
I'm powering them with a PPI 4125. I'm using an eclipse 21010 to fade between the tower and hull speakers. It also has a sub gain control and an Aux input for my i-pod.

Hey Shawn, You missed out this morning. Give me a buzz next time you're in town.
Mike sez you might get a pull behind a new x-star soon. SWEET.

Hey Tom: How and where did you mount the PPI 4125 amp, I know thats not a small amp. Who did your install?
Old     (tlb)      Join Date: Feb 2003       09-30-2004, 3:28 PM Reply
Hey Grant, I did the install myself.
I mounted the PPI amp behind the drivers side kick panel. I made an amp board and mounted it diagonally to the back of the front seat. I mounted the amp upside down so the x-overs and speaker attachments are just below where the front tower leg mounts. I can remove the kick panel and access the x-overs pretty easy.
I pretty much rewired the system while I was at it. One of the rca's was picking up some interference before so I replaced everything with twisted wire. no more buzz.
I also ran heavier wire in the tower. Now I just need another sub. Where to put it?
BTW, I think I may need to beef up my alternator, I remember you had a guy in San Jose who did a good job on yours. can you give me his #

Tom,

Great looking boat and speakers. I need to find somebody in so-cal with that setup. I want to hear what all the hype is about.

Tom, nice!! Question, when you stand up do you have to avoid hitting your head? Im thinking of getting the 05' SANTE and the 808's and am concerned about not having enough head room.. thanks

cdm

cdm, I'm 6'1" so yeah, I hit my head a few times. But, that's true with anything I hang on the tower. You'll notice the CC towers aren't as tall as a MC or Bu tower. These actually only hang about 1" lower than my old b-530's.
Also the 1010's only hang about 1/4" lower than the 808's. I was at first also looking at the 808's but when I saw there was virtually no difference in overall size, I went with the 1010's.

Tom look what came in today

What does that do, Grant?
Old    whitechocolate            10-01-2004, 9:45 AM Reply
Its a line driver. It takes the week a$$ signal that the stock clarion and I-pod puts out and boost's it up any where from 2.5 to 13 volts peak. You can see that there is a adjustment knob and a row of led lights thats shows you where your output voltage is @. Im excited to get it but not excited that I have to re-tune(turn down all my gains) on my whole system.
Ill let you know how it works when I get it installed.
P.S Swass your CD's went out yesterday

Cool! Thanks, Grant.

Does that allow you to adjust the volume of your tower speakers, subs and inboat speakers independently? (Do I see "Remote" in the lower right?)
Old     (882001)      Join Date: Nov 2003       10-01-2004, 9:59 AM Reply
theres only one knob. the remote on the bottom left is the power on, like an amp.
Old    swass            10-01-2004, 10:04 AM Reply
I see the knob. I thought I saw the word "remote" in the bottom right, so I thought it had some sort of wired control.

What sort of wiring does the line driver require? Just a simple wire to the battery? Does it require a fuse?

Those NVS speakers look huge and I bet they sound great!
Old     (tlb)      Join Date: Feb 2003       10-01-2004, 2:36 PM Reply
Grant, Can't wait to hear what you think about that line driver. I bypassed mine the other day while I was fooling with my stereo, and couldn't believe how weak it was without it. Like I said, If you don't like it I'll buy it from you for my truck, Im doing an install on it soon.

Michale, I have the x-overs set in high pass at about 200 right now. I have the gains up about 1/4-3/8. I'm running it in mono 500x2.
How do you have yours set? Have you tried running it in full pass?

hey tom they look great and i hope to hear some nvs on a trip {waketoberfest} were taking on oct 14. but are those 10" midbass even moving at all at 200? i would think somewhere closer to 80-100 would give you a fuller sound w/o distortion i run my 4-6.5" at 100 they move but no distortion. full pass they sound like azz.

Grant, How come you just didn't upgrade your stock receiver?

Tom - I would shoot Duane a PM or email and check with him about that. I tend to agree with 882001 that 80-100hz would be a better high pass cutoff choice, or possibly even full pass and let the passive x-overs do the work.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll try tuning it a little lower and see what happens.

The NVS's don't move at all at 200, but they are meant to project mid bass, not lows...my installer actually crossed them over at between 170-180...and they move a little more but the mid bass just sounds tight..Your setup looks sick...just got the install done on our 04 LSV w/Titan and 1010's done a couple months ago..
