When I was learning (still am) what helped was to surface spin them on startup (slower speed) and then ride one handed wrapped and try to cut out to the flats in that position, if you get in trouble you can slide it back and then try again. The real trick is to trust your board when you go to blind and do NOT try to look forward or behind (this will back plant you), you must look out behind the boat to shore - totally blind to the water coming at you. Once you do it right you'll know. Then you can ollie them and take it to the wake.
