What did you get with yours? I ordered my Joystick Universal Tower yesterday. When I get my USNR bonus money in a few weeks I'll be getting one or two Monster board racks and a non stretch rope. Also a wakeboard for my seven year old son.

Non Wake Related: Fridge and Stove.

Not getting a refund for the 1st time since I've filed taxes. Appears that this is the beginning of having to pay taxes for many moons to come.

Phantom,

What's the deal? You make enough to be on the low end of the tax bracket? ..... Being middle class sucks!!!!!!! I hate paying taxes. My money needs to go into my checking account.

So, I work for this company, and this article makes it sound bad. However, working for this company, kinda is a good thing. ... Notice the part about if you make less than $100K a year, all your taxes are given to SAIC. .. I don't make a $100K, so I guess I pay my own salary.

Do you know that you can get money back on the gas? Just save the recpiets and do it that way. Because they put ROAD taxes in the price of gas, and last time I checked, boats dont drive on roads.

"You make enough to be on the low end of the tax bracket?"

Tax increases across brackets are marginal so being on the low end has no significance. Losing money by moving up a bracket is a common misconception.}

Oh yeah, I'm remodeling my house with my return money.

What many don;t realize is the taxing structure...

For arguments sake: The tax braket states that the rate is 25% for those making up to 50k and 30% for those making 51K. If you make 51k you are not paying out 30% on all of your income, you are paying out 25% on 50k and 30% on 1k... It is a graduated scale.

Now to answer the thread question. I don't get tax refunds. I don't let Uncle Sam HOLD MY MONEY WITH NO INTEREST DUE.

Don't overpay your estimates or automatic withholdings and invest the money which you would normally be overpaying and let that mony moke some money for you.

Don't be too happy to get a refund. All it means is that you gave the gov't an interest free loan for a year or part of a year.

I think that income tax day should be the day before election day. I think that rather than taking taxes out of your paycheck, everybody should have to write the government a check. Then people would realize how oppressive our tax burden really is. The government has us brainwashed when people are actually happy that the benevolent, all caring Federal government is "giving" them a tax refund. End of rant.

On Peter and Manzo's note, it's pretty funny actually how many people think the government is just giving you money, free and clear. They have no idea that it's money that they never owed the government to begin with. I've had to explain that to several of my friends.

That said, I try to make my withholdings such that I will get a little bit of a refund, but not much. I don't like to owe the IRS come tax time. I also don't like to get a giant refund because it means that I gave the government a free loan when the money could have been working for me instead.

I'm actually kind of hoping my refund this year is more than I calculated...kind of overspent a bit. SCHWOOOPSS!!

Jeff, slurpees are gooooooddddd...

I am with Peter. I shoot of a tax return of 0 that way I dont have to pay in and I dont have to come up with money at the end of the year.

This year I should get about $200.00 back.

i am getting my tax stuff together tonight and hope to file by next week. hopefully i get $$ back. weird how i can't find time to do my taxes, but i've already done my ex-f/b's taxes and he gets money back. that is, as soon as he makes time to sign them so i can send them off!

I get what you're sayin' Peter. I know it was my money to begin with. But at the same time, I'm not a save money kinda' guy. So for me it's kinda' like my company accidentaly underpaid me and I'm gettin' it all back at once.

Next year will be even better though. I finaly recieved my enlistment bonus from the reserves and they taxed the crap out of it. Would've been nice to get it all but I know that I've got a couple of grand "Saved" up for this time next year when I'll hopefuly be upgrading from I/O to inboard.

Let's just say that I miscalculated on my withholding & 401k and leave it at that. But this year I become a partner and will need to look for other ways to keep from paying the IRS.

Third the ROTH contribution. Had more mortgage interest than expected on HELOC. The good old days of 4% prime are long gone.

I nailed it this year. I owe almost exactly what I put in. I have been inspired by this thread though to buy a bag of potato chips to take with us on the boat with my tax return money. They'll probably have to be off brand. I'm not sure I can afford a bag of Lays.

While I do agree with Peter, the money withheld is already there and the government already has it. Being able to get some of it back is a good thing at tax time. Next time around though you should've adjusted accordingly.

And for the non-savers out there, try getting a savings account separate from your other money and just write a check to it (or set up an automatic transfer) every pay day. You'll get used to the money not being there and the money is enough of a pain to access that you'll have to think about it first. That's what I used to do before I got married to a girl who is quite militant about saving.

Wow, 50" for the bedroom....

That's porn in life size.

Into the ING account with my leftover scrilla. Poppa needs a new house with a bigger garage.

I like to get it back at the end of the year, I take the refund, buy and sell a few cars and usually double my refund that way. The best thing is that it's tax free money. Georgia allows 6 private car transactions a year with no tax penalty. Then I spread it around between savings, the racecar, and the boat..oops almost forgot the wife she got a nice set of enhancements last year

Want a new better prop, new wakesurf board and tint my boat windows.

But what I will probably end up getting is pay off the rest of my kids private school for this year and with whats left pay off on some or our credit cards. I know boring stuff.

I work with SAIC on a regular basis. The amount of red tape just to go and do a days work is insane!! They have also landed major contracts with Chevron and BP to do environmental cleanups throughout the Northwest.

*I funded the roth!
