We thrashed the prop yesterday and are in the process of ordering a new one. ACME recommends a 381, but I was wondering if there was another acme that would be better for starts for surfing, but also suitable for wakeboarding. Should we just go with the recommended 381?

I am very happy with the Acme 537 on my 96 VLX. Plenty of pulling power, and I only hit the rev limiter on the topend if the boat is very light - one or two people and no ballast.

We are running around at least 2.5k in ballast with sacs, gear and people. We're looking for something that will help with some nice pickup thats got more torque from the go. We're getting the stock 4 blade bu prop fixed to use as a spare or just for wakeboarding and cruising, but wanna get another prop too geared more towards surfing.

ACME 1235 or OJ 475.

I went with the 1235, but mike is an 05 VLX. Made a noticable difference. Very happy.

i went from a 381 to a 537. it worked great for me. it gave me a little bit more low end power.

Thanks Rodney. I was hoping to find someone that had been running a 381 on the same hull. Ill definitely look into that one. This will be a surfing only prop, so we definitely want something that will pop up a little faster and provide enough torque to get the wake shaped quicker

I surf with about the same weight (and wakeboard with over 3k), and as I said I'm very happy with the 537.

Swapping props for other activities sounds like a hassle.

The 1235 definitely has more yank, but you will hit the rev limiter pretty easily when cruising.

I have a Sanger with the 653 and it throws a sick azz surf wake and has plenty of hole shot when wakeboarding. It's a 3 blade and supposedly 3 blades are better for surfing. I talked with ACME and this is the prop they recommended for my boat not sure if it's right for yours but I don't know why it wouldn't be if your 1 1/8" with LH rotation. I run over 2400lbs before body weight when surfing and wakeboarding.
