In comparisson to the rest of the world, probably fairly well off. I'd say the majority of us here are in the top >1%. This calculator is very humbling and really puts things into perspective.

It's all relative. Doesn't matter if you make $10,000,000 a year if you have $10,000,001 of debt.

Yeah, it's crazy how much our perspective is skewed from the world based on those around us. It is pretty amazing to think about if your household income is greater than $48K, then you're in the top 1% of the world.

Agreed Evan. Its basically a website "tricking" people into feeling wealthy since they are "so rich". haha. Really? What about a cost of living adjustment? I may make more than $2/hr but dinner in my city also costs more too...so does rent or ANY sort of structure to sleep in. Highly inaccurate.

I can make $850.00 a YEAR and STILL be better off than HALF the world ?? Come on, thats hard to believe that half of the worlds poulation is surviving on $2.33 per day.

Hard to believe? It makes me sad that people are so sheltered that they aren't able to realize how good we all have it. More of us in the middle class need to recognize that in a global perspective we are indeed VERY rich. That's not to say we should feel guilty, but at least be aware enough to be thankful.

It changes year to year, but yes...half the population is surviving on a couple bucks a day. 80% of the humanity survives on less than $10/day.

If you know where your meals and water will come from for the next 5 days, you're better off than most of the people in the world.
