Nope. 2000 hrs is a fair estimate on a well-maintained engine life. Throw that at the next bonehead caller you get.

160 hours is a bunch, when you don't actually use the dang thing! I put 60 on the first year, 50 the second, and I'm going on 110 the third year. I think some people believe 160 is a lot when there are a bunch of boats out there that seem to have that many hours for sale. I guess most people just buy them to look at them. My boat at 209 hours, still looks almost new. I wouldn't hesitate on 160 hours at all. Especially with a boat that is 4 summers old.

I put 170 on my boat last summer. That's not a lot of hours.

You should have gone sales 101 on the guy and asked him what he is basing his knowledge of 160 hours being "a ton of hours" on...probably a waist of time though. A Blown big block with multiple carbs that's been raced, than yes....a family wakeboard boat not modified, obviously no. Sounds like you have it listed on Craigslist maybe?

Justin… yep it’s on CL… I didn’t think 160 was very much, I figure that’s about 80 trips to the launch in 4 summers, 40 hours per summer and so on, I hate selling stuff anymore, you always get some kind of crack head or Mr. dealer that thinks what your selling isn’t worth a dime, but they want it! GRR…..

My 2006 has 284, so I would say your boat has low hours.

It's funny. 160 hours on a wakeboard boat seems like it's barely broken in. However, it's not that odd to see a 20 ft IO that is 10 years old with less than 200 hours on it. I think it's because people with wakeboard boats bought them to tow, whereas many people who are buying IOs use them to get to the party cove or just don't tow as much. My dad who's 65 and "old school" freaks out about the thought of a boat with 300+ hours, but I've seen it stated everywhere that you can count on at least 2000 hours out of a modern engine if well maintained.

I've worked on Ski School units with an excess of 4000 hours that were running just fine.

100 hrs on a boat is equilent to about 8000 car miles, would you hesitate to by a 12000 mile car? I have 900hrs on my 2004 used strickly in show skiing, pulling 7 barefooters, 5 man jump and all other acts, still performs perfectly.

My first boat was a 2000 MC and I sold it with 1,100 hrs. The boat ran like a champ. I'm pretty sure to this day it's still holding strong.
