Just wanted to get everyone's two cents on how the gas prices are effecting the boat market. I have noticed many dealers in my area that still have boats left over from the boat show in February! We still ride just as much but it sure gets into the pocket a bit more! It will be interesting to see what happens if and when prices hit the $3.00 mark. I have a buddy who owns a start-up company who makes a new sensor for seat belts in automobiles. His Investors just pulled funding because the auto market is expected to plummet due to the rise in fuel. It will be interesting to see how the boat industry is effected if they haven't been already...

I don't know about the sells in boats, but to fill our Tige` is a $60-75 chunk, which used to be around only $30-35. In Colorado, gas has hit a record of $2.97 in Vail, (which is expensive anyway, but still). The cost is cutting into our grocery expence, but, I would rather board than eat anyway. Hehe~

I dont ride any less at all, nothing keeps me off the water.....and if any of us can spend that much on the boat, what is another twenty bucks in gas each day?

maybe this makes the case for riding cable once in awhile......

Mike, I live down closer to Denver, but I looked up on GASbuddy.com and it said the highest was in Vail. I pay the annual $$$fee$$$ to ride at Stanley, which is only about 10 minutes from where I live. If you're ever down here, and want a pull, send me an e*mail, and we'll hook up or something. Always looking for other riders and such.

I have gone to Powell every year of my life(22) at least one trip a year, and to my recolaction(sp) I have never seen what I did this year. When we were there in June, we only saw one cabin cruiser over 33' on the lake. many in slips, but only one crusin', also we saw at least ten house boats still attached to their bouys with boats tied, and people on them. This is a first for me, and an indication that gas is affecting the way things are done.

My guess...
$3 per gallon will effect your next car purchase, but probably not your next boat purchase.
$5 per gallon will effect your next boat purchase.

it get's a little pricey when filling a 65 gallon gas tank each weekend. it hurts when you have to give the gas dock 2 c-notes.

cost $150 to fill the tank last weekend. THe gas prices are going to change my buying decision, i am going to get a bit smaller engine. No 400hp big block for me.

GD is right on. $3.00 a gallon will not change much, but it might keep a few goobers off the lake early in the morning tubing.

$5.00/gallon will change alot of things. I think it will be there within 3 years at the marina pumps.

Maybe if prices go to $5, people will stop power turning ;-)

Maybe it'll push us to run with less ballast.

Maybe it'll reward those boats that throw a fun wake when really lightly loaded.

During our last trip to Havasu, we took a cruise day and went from the Bridge up a little past Needles. GPS said we were 33 miles from the marina by air. Did a little riding little backtracking here and there, ended up cruising a little faster than normal (low 30's), etc., but at the end of the day I was pretty sure the fuel gauge was broke: read 1/4 left in the 43 gallon tank. $80-something bucks of Chevron Super for an afternoon of cruising around.

I'd hate to be filling up a Magic, etc.

We aint far from $5/gallon...I paid $4.04/gallon at Bridge Bay/Shasta Lake last week. Total: $1700 for 2 boats and the houseboat for a week!

I am surprised that no one pointed out the grammatical error in this thread yet, it's actually in quite a few places too. Anyone care to guess what it may be? It may AFFECT the way you use certain words in the future...

I also thought the high price would keep people off the water. Last weekend there was even more than usual people on the water. The only thing Ive noticed is the big gofast 5 gallons per mile boats arent out there. I would imagine some boat dealers are willing to deal on their stock thats not moving.

It affects my tow vehicle more than anything. 9.3mpg hurts, but I'm still driving over the pass this weekend. Top ramen is looking more and more like a part of my everyday diet. Or McChickens for a buck.

No, still go out 3 to 4 times a week. Just hurts when a monthly fule bill of $500.00 a month comes in.
