Loose shoes vs. Tight shoes

I've been riding with some lace up skate shoes that I snug down a little bit and am thinking about using another pair that have velcro but don't get that tight. Has anyone lost a shoe from them not being that tight. They aren't so loose that I can kick them off without using my other foot but are loose enough that it worries me a bit. Any opinions and advise is welcome. i don't wnat to lose them.

Have you seen, "free4all", tim kovacitch looses one if his shoes when he crashes. But tighter shoes will give you more response with the board.

I've always wondered, how is Kovacich pronounced? Is it like Kov-AY-citch or Kov-Uh-citch? Anyways, tighter shoes help a tad more with control

Also adding to the topic a bit, I've got some cheap Wal Mart shoes that I drilled holes in.. do skate specific shoes really make that big of a difference? If so how, and what shoes would you recomend?
