My boat was outside on the trailer and i forgot to pull the plug and it rained like crazy and it got flooded. The starter and alternator are shot but i charged the battery and all elecronics are good. Would the only problems be those 2 things, anything else that could have broken? Is it difficult to replace the starter?

check the ecu. This happened to a friends boat, and the ecu was shot, but it was difficut to diagnose.

the water was there for a day and the ecu is much higher. The whole reason it was sitting there is because the alternator was shot. I let all the water out and charged the battery and all electronics work but the starter is out.

Check and change the Tranny and V Drive lube (if a V Drive)...they are vented at the tops of the units, and water will intrude if it gets that high. I would check the motor oil as well, just to be safe, but you would of had to been REALLY flooded to get into the motor.

Maybe a stupid question, but, why didn't the bilge keep the water down?

If the water was high enough to trash the alternator then you're going to have loads of issues. That must have been some amount of rain!

I would think you can change the starter, alt. and all the fluids and will probably be good. You might just want to take it to the dealer. If the alt. went out that should probably still be under warranty. The bilge probably didnt work because his alt. was already shot and the battery was dead. Is my guess.

How much water in the engine area. If it was significant then you should drain the tranny oil and refill. Water can get into tranny through breather tube. I am guessing your alternator went bad prior to this and so your battery was low or dead prior to this? Otherwise both of your bilge pumps should have turned on. Motor is still under warranty (3 years) so have them replace alternator.

before you do a lot of stuff yourself, you might think about taking it to the dealer and having it fully checked out. If there is any significant damage, you can make a claim on your boat insurance; that's what its for.

Manny, if you need a starter or alternator and want to put it in yourself I can probably save you a lot of money. If you can get me the numbers I can cross them or probably find an OEM replacement. It will be a lot cheaper than the dealer. We carry Leece-Neville alternators and Delco-Remy startes, which are probably the OEM suppliers to Indmar.

Dude just use it. If it breaks, then fix it. I would spray it down with WD40 and not worry about it. Have you started the motor yet? Take it to a dealer if its broke and get it done right its not a 89 boat your talking about.
