step one. join wakeworld, welcome

step two. find a third/ be a third. you dont need a boat to ride

step three. Coaching- Anyone that takes you out should be able to coach you the basics- getting up, edging, technique, etc.

Step four- Buy a closeout board or better yet, find something used from the classifieds here. Boards are sized by weight generally and most girls fall in the low 130cm sizes usually.

welcome to wakeworld

Check out Lake Norman. dominantboardsports.com has clinics during the summer cheap and after school wake programs.

As for coaches, check out adamswakeboardschool.com Adam is super cool and a great coach.

Also check out coble ski school in Lillington. It's a 5 day camp. It's so worth it! I went there last summer and had a blast

endofropegang.com is a site w/ a lot of NC and VA boarders on it.

Get a board, and start riding. You don't need anything new, so don't go into a boardshop and buy 07' gear unless you want to drop some cash. As far as boards for a beginner go, you could ride anything from 2000's and up, and not be able to tell much of a difference, as long as the board wasn't wrecked (in bad shape). I would say check your local shops for demo'd boards or closeout sales, and try to find something short. A longer board is around 142cm, while a short board can go to around 124-5cm. You probably want to look in the 130-134cm (just a guess), but definitly ask the proshop people what they think.

Once you get a board and some bindings, hit up the "find a third" section on this site, someone in your area will for sure give you a pull behind their boat, as long as you help out with gas etc...

I'm going to second Emily's rec. for a coach, I met Adam Fields over Spring Break at OWC, and talked with him for a bit about his coaching stuff...it sounded really fun, he's a killer rider and seems like he'd be a great coach.
