My man at the Malibu dealership tells me this is plenty to tow a '95-'97 Sunsetter LX w/gas, gear, trailer. I am still a little leary. The owners manual tells me my tow capacity is 4800 or 5800lbs depending on my axle which I have not an idea. Anyone towing with a similar ride? How does it handle? Think it is safe?

I've towed my X-Star with my Toyota V-6 4x4, but it wasn't fun. I could only do 25mph up any hill.

Pulling your Sunsetter up the launch will be hell. When it comes to just regular towing, it'll do. But, that 2WD (and it's rear wheel drive too) is not going to do very well up all but the most gentle launch ramps.

yeah 4x4 is defenitly awesome on launch's but regular towing you should be fine.

i tow my mobius w/ a 94 4x4 ranger, the tow capacity on the bumper was 2000lbs, i threw a hitch on it, and the back sags quite a bit, i cant go more than 65mph on the freeway, but it tows it, and on 4x4 low that sucker pulls it out of the water at any launch like a little champ.

You should be fine, unless you live in a hilly area, like out west. I have 2wd 99 f150, but with the small v8, 4.6? Tows great. I don't think 4wd is necessary. I have pulled out of the grarliest ramps with 2wd, this truck and an old chevy c100. Just need good tires.

to know which axle gearing you have I think you can find it on the tag that is on the driver's door frame somewhere...
anyway I think it should do just fine...
