Why would bullet put a coaxial and a component in a tower speaker together?

Because NVS did it first.

The one on the right looks like a mid-bass driver to me, which would explain it.

A component is a mid-base driver with an external Tweeter.

"The Deviant series utilizes proven audio design technology from our Tyrant series. The Deviant uses a 10" mid-bass speaker in combination with a 10" coax speaker and high efficiency Horn Loaded Compression Driver (HLCD)" Straight off their web page.

Why do they use names like 'Deviant' and 'Tyrant'? Seems like something along the the lines of 'Puppy Dog' or 'Cupcake' would sound a lot nicer.

This is really off topic, but I just bought a new car and the salesman's name is Demond Terrer.

Is this really a tweeter? It looks more like tube for the bracketry.

Thats' a Polk Audio db6750 (component) and Polk Audio db675 (coax) The component gives you tighter midbass, and external crossover with separate tweeter.

At one point it was popular for Boss, Fusion, Bullet and others to mix coaxials and components. No one put a great amount of analysis into it... It was just unique. But you don't see it much anymore. I don't agree with mixing two types of fullrange tower speakers that have a different sensitivity and different power handling. So I wouldn't ordinarily mix on the same tower coaxials with components coaxials with HLCDs, fullrange 6 1/2" with fullrange 8" and so on. A symmetrical approach will be more efficient and more effective. David Earmark Marine (Message edited by David_e_m on August 11, 2009)

Q: "Why would bullet put a coaxial and a component in a tower speaker?" A: Because they needed to fill that hole with something. It's really a component tower speaker with a coax bolted on as a sidecar. Pretty lame design in my opinion. I would rather just see two of the same coaxials and nothing in the hole. I would expect efficiency issues to negate the majority of the benefit of adding the coaxial at all.

I agree with Mikeski and David. SKylon did a double component a few years back.

I don't think the idea was LAME, it was a good way to get some better mid bass on the tower. I had that setup back in 2003. They used Planet Audio and later they made a change to Polk. I had no complaints. I know Bullet sold a ton of them. Here is my 2003 Malibu LSV with Bullets and custom covers. (Message edited by stewart on August 11, 2009)

I did not see any benefit and did not understand why they did not put the second tweet below the first on the bottom of the same braket. The two speakers in it now have different rated power handling also.

In my opinion - all car door speaker tower speakers are lame My tower speakers are used for the rider. Stewart, that's a nice looking setup. Probably sounded very good inside the boat. I would be surprised if you could hear much of them while riding. (Message edited by mikeski on August 11, 2009)

Stewart, That was a good lookin' set up. Most of the current emphasis seems to be on S.P.L. Rather than clean tower integration. Bullet's compact HollowPoint HLCDs and spun aluminum pods make it easy to achieve both. Powdercoating is still reasonably priced and quick, plus its super durable. David Earmark Marine

I stand corrected. I thought that was a bracket also not a tweater.
