My wife and I slalom (free ski mainly); kids wakeboard, kneeboard, surf, etc.. I am in market for new boat but can't decide. Priority is the open bow and v-drive for more room and storage, but want the best of both wakes. Thoughts on the MC X10 or the malibu wakesetter. Any help would be appreciated.

the Tige Z1 would be a great choice. 21 foot v-drive. if your on a budget it fits that too.

I owned the 21 XTi Malibu a few years back

I could sac it out nicely for a great wake, but we were always walking on sacs

my buddy owns an old response and he hated my slalom
wake
but
the response wake is one of the best slalom wakes there is.....so he is a bit spoiled

test drive the XTI and take your gear with you

it's been a while since I rode a ski, but the wake was always bigger when I was flying across it as opposed to looking at it from the boat

Price range - looking for used between 20k and 40k. What year should i be looking at in the response?

Agreed you should stay in the 21 foot range to get what you want.

You should test drive a 08 Moomba Outback V or maybe a LSV for a little more. Both comes with a 4 year powertrain warranty and is in your price range.

I am a Malibu guy, but the Nautique SV-211 is your boat you want. It has a sweet wakeboard/surf wake and really has a good single ski wake. My neighbor and good friend has one and so does his brother and it is a sweet boat.

I'll 2nd the Nautique SV-211 and I've spoken to several people who say the MB Sports B52V has a good slalom wake suprisingly but i don't know that first hand. a buddy of mine just bought a Tige 20V and seems pretty happy with it (he skis, kids board).

The Malibu VTX is the only Vdrive I know of that is AWSA certified.

It takes a special hull to create a true crossover boat that can deliver both a soft slalom wake and a serious wakeboard wake from one hull design. The Crossover Nautique 211 features our exclusive Fusion Hull in combination with Hydro-Gate™, creating different levels of lift and letting you control the wake’s size and shape.

The Crossover Nautique 211 is the only V-drive USA Waterski-certified to pull water ski tournaments. It is the only V-drive that can create launching power for wakeboarders at all levels of the sport. Like all our boats, it comes complete with the heritage, value and performance you expect from Nautique.

Take a look at the MasterCraft x15. This is what I have and it is a great boat.

Great for wakeboard and skiing?

I have 06 Moomba LSV.. with wakeplate down no ballast and small crew, it is a nice rec ski wake
but with the ability to have a nice wakeboard wake.. Ditto the Moomba Outback V, LSV
go to wakeboardingmag.com and look at the boat tests. one factor in your ski wake is gonna be total boat weight. Wakeplate will help bring the bow down and flatten wake..

Gene I am not a skier. Its great fun for wakeboarding. Depending on how advanced you are more ballast might be needed. We wake surf behind it too. I looked at malibu too which is a great boat but just felt the x15 suited my needs more for the family. Go take a test drive and try both.

Ian:

What about the X2?

I felt the interior was to small for my needs. I did not test drive one so couldn't tell you how it is. The X15 has a ton of room in it. I can put 2 or 3 families of 4 in it and hang on the water all day. I also am not a huge fan of the pickle fork but its just a personal preference.

Ian, I think the X10 was replaced by the X15. I drove the X10 and love it (very solid). Do you know much about the X10.

MC X-14 the only boat to be all 5 event certified.

Matt - do you ski behind the x14

All good choices. I will mention the X1 since I have one. Comes from the old MC 205 hull. We put 4-6 pop bags in the nose for waterskiing in the morning. Wake is just a little larger and firmer than a prostar 197 at 33 MPH.

After breakfast we fill the ballast tanks and load her down with more pop products and people for wakeboarding. In the evening we'll drain the starboard ballast, move all the pop bags to the port locker and surf! Drink a beer, wake up and do it all over!

Best way is to test drive, ski/ride behind them and look into dealer reputation. Good luck!

I don't have any experience with the x10. Mine is a 2008 x15. Not sure of its family tree just know that is a solid boat that has worked out very well for my needs.

The X-15 has a very nice all around wake for surfing skiing or wakeboarding

Ours pulls a slalom very nicely

Gene no i do not (PS 205) but somone i kno has one and its slalom wake is very flat and wakeboard nice when weighted.

Not as much storage as some mentioned above but the MC X1 wakeboards at pro-level and ski's at near-pro-level at speeds around 35mph. i have owned one and can attest first-hand to these statements.

Gene,

Where are you located? I know of a very sweet deal on an 07' X-14. It's not on the left coast though.

X- 15 will a ski plate. Huge wake for surf and wakeboarding! Flip of a switch and 3 seconds later you have a flat wake for skiing.

Don't forget to check out Sanger, the V210, or the DLX or the D215 are all boats that would work in crossover very well.

I also recommend the Nautique SV211 for a boat to wakeboard & ski behind.

X-1 is my favorite all arounder. Maybe that's 'cuz I have one (or, at least a 05 X-2). Better wakeboard wake than the 211, better surf wake too. Comparable ski wake, the 211 may be a tiny bit better but in order of importance to me it's wake, wake, wake, surf, surf, ... , and then ski.

Go with the Moomba Mobius LSV you will get everything you need. You can get a newer boat with less hours, best bang for the buck. I bought an 06' w/ 100hrs for 35k loaded.
