So I was at the cable today and we got caught in what seemed to be a never ending storm, so when it lightened up a little (45 minutes later) I made a run for it (at McCormicks which is a long run). I always leave my phone in my car but for some reason i must have grabbed it along with my wallet and threw it in my backpack. When i got in the car and checked, the screen was dark but visible as if a bulb blew and it was responsive to commands (sort of). It was also making this weird constant vibration. So i immediately shut it down and when i got home I threw it into a bag of rice and sealed it. Is there anything else I can do? How long do I keep it in the rice? It is a 3GS, are they still available since the 4g came out or am I stuck with getting a 4g? This sucks

I think you need to leave it in there for like 24 hours but don't quote me on it. Yes the 3gs is still available. If your anywhere near 2 years into your existing contract might as well get the 4. Search craigslist in your local area for "iPhone repair". You'll be surprised. Good luck

Dropped my phone in the lake last year, and managed to recover it. It was only in about three feet of water. I took the battery out and put it in a bag of rice for 3 days, and popped the battery back in and everything worked like new. I did check it after the first day and noticed some condensation on the screen still, and decided to wait a couple more days.

Also dont charge it. My dad dropped his and the guy that fixed it said if it gets wet it might still work but if you try to charge it you are srewed. get it repaired first.

The problem with the iPhone is you can't take the battery out. So the circuits are always juiced. Another trick, although it sounds crazy, submerse it in 100% isopropyl alcohol. The alcohol is non conductive and apparently bonds to the water when it quickly evaporates. I actually tried it and it worked, but it wasn't for a phone. The rice trick worked for my phone. I was too scared to dump my phone in a liquid again.

Like said above, check on craigslist for iphone repair. My 2 year old knocked my mothers iphone in about 4 inches of water and I pulled it out within 2 seconds. Took it to a local repair guy and he was able to get it going for $90. He did say that it's 50/50 when they get wet at all for being repairable or having a paper weight. If it was any other phone I'd say try the rice but I'm pretty sure you're better off just getting it to someone who knows what they are doing and keeping your fingers crossed.
