Just wondering what are some tricks that a 14 year old would need to be throwing for a chance at getting sponsored?

I doubt that any companies are looking to pick up more sponsored riders at the moment. Riding is important but you also have to represent the company. I know some 14 yr olds who might be able to pull it off but a lot that couldn't and that has nothing to do with riding.

There are all kinds of sponsorships. Local shop sponsorship, up to the pro level sponsorship. It's not all about riding ability. Just as important is how you represent your sponsor and yourself. Get involved with everything you can in the wake industry. Make contacts with shop reps. You have to distinguish yourself because there are kids 14 who can absolutely throw down some tricks, but a sponsor may not touch them because of their character.

Don't be cocky. If you are 14, good at what you do, and don't brag, you might as well tattoo a Unicorn on your back. Also, don't appear to eager. That hurts.

the easiest path is through your local board shop, make friends with them, support them and if you really rip chances are they'll hook you up. From there they can introduce you to whoemever they are buying from, be it LF, Ronix or whatever. Really though, if you rip, and your a good kid you will get noticed, so let it come to you, worry about your riding not being sponsored

First...Dont ask how to become sponsored on a discussion board. Second...dont ever ask how to become sponsored. Go out and ride with someone better than you and enter comps.

My little homie is 10 and has varying forms of sponsorship from Jet Pilot, LF, Devotid and StraightLine. He never really contacted any of these, he won 2008 Worlds in Jr. Boys and people took notice. Get your face out there in the contest scene and ride well... but at 14 you better shred, cuz there are a bunch of youngsters killin it.

Doesn't that video of bob fly in the face of what everyone here is saying? He's cocky and not afraid to talk himself up. He's got skills too, no doubt but it's ironic that he's the only kid being mentioned here and he's the complete opposite to what everyone on this thread is saying.....

One of the most important things to remember when looking for sponsors is how can you represent their company/product. When I used to own a drag car we went to various different companies for sponsorship only to be turned down several times. While at a race in NV we were approached by Goodyear who was interested in providing us with a full sponsorship. When I asked the guy why they were interested in our team over the next they told me that even though we didnt win and were not the best team out there we showed a strong sense of teamwork and they observed us helping other drivers out with their cars. I guess what I am trying to say is that its not about being the best or throwing the best tricks (though it probably helps) but its also about helping others and providing a postive vibe for their company.

Ride well in tournaments, stay humble, be active and participate in local events/etc., meet new people while being involved and maintain a personable character. Sponsors will find their way to you. (Message edited by tcaz on July 29, 2009)
