One dealer said use 30 weight motor oil. A second said 90 weight gear oil? What the heck now I'm unsure. Bought boat used and dont have manual. Boat is 97 Sanger V210.

i use non detergent oil which is difficult to find BUT i have heard regular 30wt oil(with detergent) will work as well(according to correct craft). my friend who was a nautique mechanic suggested 90wt gear oil. the 90wt will probably perform better and last longer with constant use but the 30 wt will allow for easier starts/engagements

Another vote for SAE 30. Use it in my 210; based on what was recommended for the Walters unit.
Also if you take out the old oil you should notice a difference between 30 and 90 wt. 90 wt is pretty thick.

Motor oil of 30 weight is the same viscosity as gear oil of 80 weight. Either one is fine.
The detergent helps if you have a filter but does nothing under normal use if you have no filter. Under severe use its a negative.
Both the dealers were correct.

Another vote for non-detergent 30w. Although I was told 80w as well by a dealer.
