we have a '92 mastercraft , its direct drive. i never feel like i have true neutral. i always have forward thrust when the throttle lever is in neutral and even when the pin is pulled to disengage the trans ( so you can give it gas, like to get it started). its not much but i think my prop is ALWAYS spinning. is this normal or something i should worry about.

Never had that problem on any boat I owned. Neutral is always neutral and doesn't spin the prop at all.

Boat transmissions are fairly complex and there is not really a true neutral. The clutches disengage but they often drag a little causing the prop to turn a bit. When we used to run in salt the prop would be turning at some slow speed with half of the boats we had. Velvet drives do it more than ZF trannies.

When my sanger is not in gear, the prop shaft does not turn at all. Even if the boat was in tow. There is something wrong based on the velvet drive tranny's I have owned. Sorry, I don't know what is wrong.
