why in 04 was the x2 ballast 900..then in 05 it was 650 now the x1 has 500 lbs of ballast...was there any change from 03-06 (x1) .....would u rather have a 03 x2 or a 06 x1??

The X1 does not come stock with the center bag, but only two tanks in back and they don't even have carpet on them...I am glad I have an 04' X2 as well.

the reason the new x1's have little or no ballast is b/c they are try'n to strip the boat down to make it more affordable.. you can always order a new one with the two rear (250lbs=500lbs) and the front (300lbs) which would = 800 lbs..

another reason why the ballast is lower in newer years is b/c Mastercraft use foam when they build. it quiets the boat down and adds more weight to the boat. if you look at an older 205 v drive the swim platform sits lower in the water than an empty X 2 / x1 because its more buoyant(less foam weight). Mastercraft makes a riser bracket for people sinking the older 205 that brings the platform higher... sheds some light?

plus lead it the new fat sac and it sinks the boat a lot more efficient that water.. water has natural buoyancy so adding 200 lbs of sacs adds up less than that ..

My X1 has carpeted ballast tanks in the rear and it was not an option... just came that way.

The ballast was still 900 in 05. It didn't drop until 06.

Ryan, I think I understand what you were tryinhg to explain, but ya lost me buddy. Are you saying the new boats are more buoyant or less?

I actually think lead is less efficient. You burn up a lot of gas hauling it around.

I don't think it was ever actually 900, although this is what I was told when I bought my boat in 04. The guy from Mastercraft of Charlotte did some testing back in 04 or 05 if I remember correctly, and it's somewhere around 600 pounds. He used to post over here, but I think he pretty much just stays over at mymastercraft.com now.

Measure the width x height x length of your stock hard tanks, and then multiply it by .036. That will tell you how much they weigh. I'm not near mine right now, so I can't do it.

j rod... its makes the boat heavier but if it takes on too much water mastercraft boats will bob up and down with the nose out of the water..

ya lead makes towing it harder and burns up more gas when riding..
how much lead do you have in yours??
we mainly have 4 people in our boat with the balast filled and an extra 500lbs in it.. big old wake!!!

last memorial weekend we had 14 people in it ballast filled with 800 extra pound and it took about an hour for it to plane and burned up a tank in a sec... but the wake was soooooooooo big though
