Got a question for those malibu owners out there. I upgraded from an 01 to an 05 vlx this year with the illusion tower. I love the ride and the tower is solid as a rock. however, when we are pulling a rider and they cut into the wake, the tower creaks a lot. It's like it's not screwed in tight enough, but with the tool that came with the boat, we have tightened it as much as we can. Has anyone else had this same thing happen? Any ideas?

Never heard a creaking Illusion myself. The bushings could be worn out. There is a bushing in the tower where the pin goes into, this could cause it to move a little.

I sat next to an '08 with one, I'm used to my Titan III on an '06 and I noticed a creak too. It scared me to sit there a little, my titan makes no noise, none!

A buddy of mine has an 05 23 LSV his did the same thing. He called metacraft and they sent him a kit to fix it, I don't know exactly what it included, but it worked. It was an easy fix, something as simple as new bolts/gaskets/bushings???

There are two plastic bushings that go in between the tower base and the tower at the pivot point. This was a common problem on 2005 towers. It is a simple fix as described.
