mater craft pro star any good

I have a mate looking to buy a boat and we have found a mastercraft prostar 196 1992 can anyone give me there options on them as wakeboard boats. The wake, model type etc.

i have a 1997 and i like it...i put a monster tower etc. but u have to put some good amounts of weight in them for them to chunk..o yeah a 4 blade prop really helps also.

I had a 96 , very good wake for the price,but a little cramped , w/ full ballast taking all your floor space. I ran 2k in ballast plus gear and a few people.

MC never made a 196. They had a Prostar 190 at the time.

I had a `92 Prostar 190. It was very reliable, had awesome ski wakes (that hull is considered one of the best slalom wakes ever), and drove/handled GREAT, but it's not much of a wakeboarding rig.

I ran about 1800 lbs ballast, mostly because I was out of room, but it also got pretty scary to drive with any more. It still took medium sized rollers over the bow pretty frequently, with more ballast it'd take medium rollers over the back too. There was literally no floor space or bow storage left with all the sacks. Going out with a crew of more than 4 was almost impossible.

On thing to add , the boat rides beyond terrible in the chop. I only ran mine in a river, but you haev to be very careful about taking rollers over the bow/stern, I've even taken water over the gunnels in mine.

I have an 86 PS190 and I use the 1200# fly high seat in the back and around 450# in the bow space. Nice wake but a pain in the arse to drive in chop. Water easily comes over the top. One more thing, I can't find a tower tall enough to put the tow point a 7'-8' high, too short of sidewalls.
