proper way of checking fluid levels?

so when you fill the boat with Oils, is the propper level when the boat sits on the trailer, or on the water?

On the water is the proper level with the oil warm.

It doesn't matter... Just make sure that your trailer is on fairly level ground.

All fluids can be checked on the trailer if level, if oil just make sure they are between the 2 marks.

BEWARE some gearbox/vdrive units need to be hot or have been running to check oil levels correctly depending on manufacture and model, read your owners manual!

If the trans is slipping add fluid if the v-drive light is on underway add oil to the unit. Haha jk check the trans on the water when the fluid is hot, v-drive and engine oil can be checked on the trailer on flat ground. Watch your knuckles when pulling the trans dipstick.

Almost all fluids should be checked when hot to allow for expansion. Though I don't think it'll make much difference on a boat.
