I am looking at buying a new boat and cant decide what to buy. Anyone have any feedback or opinions on these 2, except the size and price tag.

Wanting opinions and leaving out size and price tag is hard to do. Obviously if you need a bigger boat than the xstar, the 45 is the way to go. If you don't, the star is the way to go. If you don't want to spend as much, the star, etc...I guess, you might give a little more info on usage of the boat, lake size, etc.

Depends what you're using if for I suppose. If you're looking to get the best wake, I'd go with the x-star. Of course, you should look at the X-1 as well if that's the case.

Price aside....I was just looking for opinions from people that have ridden behind both. It will be used on an average lake. I dont necessarily need a bigger boat, I am in a 23' now, but just wanted info on the 2 and the wake difference

I chose the X45 for added room and the surf wake. I compared stock boats when I test drove them. The X45 surf wake was bigger and cleaner. The xstar's extended hull makes a line in the wakes transition while wakesurfing. Again this was with stock ballast. Things may change once weight is added.

Pretty much the same as everyone else if you can afford the 45 and have the space to store it go for it. Fuel consumption might also be a consideration. I would think a 45 would use more fuel per hour.

Love the X-star..... I like the X45 also, but really all it gets you is more interior space. It's a great looking boat, but I love the X-star wake and don't need the extra space. I think you'll also find that the X-star actually has more storage. The compartments on the X45 are actually pretty small.

i would go with the x star, it is by far the best wake i have ridden... EVER!! i have also ridden behind the x 45, it is nice to have the extra room in the x 45, but it is only a 2 foot difference... not that big of deal to me.

Really depends on what you are doing. If you want one of the best wakeboarding wake's hands down...go with the Star... If you have a family, and are doing a bit of everything, go with the 45 - its a great all round boat with tons of room. One bonus is that the X-45 has an awesome surf wake both regular and goofy...

If you are spending 80-100K on a wakeboat, fuel should not be a concern. If the boat staps you to the point that fuel consumption is a problem, you have spend more than you should have. I know you didn't say anything about fuel, but someone mentioned it. Just my 2c.

Everyone, Thanks for the replies. We are leaning towards the X-45 just for the extra room. I really like the bow area in both but the 18 person seating is appealing to me. Talk about ballast! and it's got 1000lb auto ballast with 100g gas tank!

"The compartments on the X45 are actually pretty small" I didn't notice this at all. On the contrary, the first time I looked inside of an X45 I thought the compartments were huge. However, I didn't do a side by side compartment comparison with the X-Star. Take a look and judge for yourself. LOL

I'd Go With The 45 Just Because It Seats 18 People[!]

I have been in both and we went with an X-45 and couldn't be happier. I have to disagree with the X-45 not being much bigger, it truly is. Paul is right about the bow. A guy who is 6"2" and up can sit in the bow and lounge, in the X-star bow it is a little cramped. We have had 14 people in the boat so far and no issues with space. As for the wake, No question about it, the X-star is better. That being said, The X-45 puts out a good wake and is more than adaquate for us, since we are just beginner to intermediate riders. If you are a serious wakeboarder, The X-star is your boat. Otherwise The X-45 is a great all-around boat. Paul I can tell you more about both boats if you would like, just shoot me a PM. We have already put over 40 hours on the 45 in a month and a half.

same for me as wakegump. 14 people in the boat and still didn't feel crowded. Takes forever to get sets in though if all 14 people are boarding. TONS of space. I have 3 slalom skis, 2 Wakesurfs in storage below, as well as 14 life vests, bumpers, etc. Never had an issue having enough storage space even with the boat full. For water appeal, there are fewer x-45's out. From my experience, the 350HP motor got much better gas milage than an x-star with an 8.1,.

"X-star bow is a little cramped" Ha, ha, ha... LOL!!! Jump in a X1 and tell me about cramped. I thought the bow on the X-star is huge. Definitely all personal preference. I was basing the size of the storage compartments on a side by side comparison. We couldn't get the big fly high sacs in the back of the X-45, but they fit perfect in the X-star and there's room on top of them. I think the back of the X-star is actually a tad deeper. If I went with either of these boats I'd lean toward the new LY6 motor or the 8.1 . We'll have our new LY6 next week, so I'll give a comparison between that, the MCX and the 8.1 when we get back from our houseboat trip.

paul, we're in the same situation. can't decide between an x-star and x-45...we're going tomorrow to take both boats to the lake and make a choice! then it comes down to the engine too...the LY6 vs. the L18. guy at the dealer said the LY6 is plenty of power and uses a lot less fuel.

The LY6 is awesome. I'll slam my 45 and it pushes it just fine. It is quieter as well. If you go with the LY6 make sure you follow the break in procedures. The motor is a dog, and very noisy and vibrates alot until the break in period is completed. Those first ten hours seemed to take forever but it was well worth the wait.

I have had the Xstar for two months now and love the boat. The X45 looks huge in side, but we find the space in the Star to be good for us. The wake is very nice behind the star and I am a beginner to intermediate rider. If it is too much wake just leave out the extra water. The star rides better than the 01 X30 that I had before, but you can take water over the front if you don’t watch the waves when you going slow.

I have a large cruiser that really doesn't move much going over boat wakes. The first time I passed an Xstar, I didn't slow down and it really bounced the boat. I was pretty impressed.

ok, being that i have an x-star, i will naturally have to point you in that direction, but my buddy has an x-45 that i have ridden behind a lot as well. if you are looking for a true wakeboard boat you cant get any better than the x-star. the 45's wake seemed to wash over and the star is more "nimble" haha. the 45 has a much heaver feel to it. other than that the 45 will fit more people if thats what you want, but the x-star gets my vote

I love my X45. I have put almost 190 hours on it since September. It does everything well.. slam it right and the wake is huge for surfing or wakeboarding. It handles the chop in Biscayne Bay really well when I want to drive to and from the Keys, and has plenty of room even with a dozen people aboard.. perfect for the weekend trips to the sand bar in the summer.

I have looked at both and riden behind neither. Living in Florida I liked the X-45 just because of the extra room both in the beam and length. imho
